Hey guys, my bridge on my strat is misaligned and I can't seem to install the whammy bar in because of this.

Anyone know how to adjust it or have any good videos that will show me how? Will I also have to re-adjust the action on my guitar if I do this?

I have a MIA strat, the with the six screw system in case yall are wondering.

Thanks!

Can you take a pic or explain a little better what you mean
By misaligned ?

Also, you might have the wrong whammy bar for it.
My memory is murky but Mia and mim whammy bars have
different thread.

Well when you look at it from the top, the hole where you put the whammy in place isn't straight. It was a used MIA Strat I got off GC a few a days ago.

The hole for the trem bar is drilled at an angle in the block. Used guitar? If the bar doesn't fit in the hole, GC gave you the wrong bar. Go back and get one that fits.

Wow really? They told me it just needed a setup and they gave me a different bar too..

Guess I'm not going there again..

Perhaps you misunderstood Bluesky636's comment (or perhaps I'm misunderstanding your response to his comment) -- the hole in the block for the trem arm is supposed to be drilled at an angle and yours is correct. The arm doesn't screw straight in, you have to angle it so it matches the angle of the hole in the block.

If the arm they gave you won't go in when it's angled to match the hole, they gave you the wrong arm.

I do know a guy who had a bridge where the hole was actually drilled in the wrong spot so that the bridgeplate partially blocked the hole (Fender replaced the block under warranty), but that's freakishly rare. In my 40 year obsession with Strats, that's the only misdrilled arm hole I've ever heard of.

Ohh so it's just supposed to be like that??

I bet he gave me a wrong arm so I had to pay more to set it up since that was what he said it needed...

If you can take a picture of the bridge block, I bet it's a replacement
aftermarket block, possibly, or back to my initial response.
Wrong whammy arm.
That's a USA model? 6screw trem, could be an older model.
Or could be a pop in.
Idk it's hard to tell which model of guitar it is.

Yes, sorry if I wasn't clear, but the hole is supposed to be drilled on an angle. You can see it in the cutaway photos of the block here:

http://www.callahamguitars.com/blocks.htm

The arm is probaby wrong but you still may need a proper setup anyway.

Hi there,

I know exactly what OP's talking about. I've had 2 Am Stds, 2006 s/nos, bought new. Neither of the arms would screw in either. As OP says, the holes in the plate and block do not line up, period.

I took the plates off and drilled the holes out a fraction. Job done.

Pity Fender couldn't do it...!

Cheers - Peter.
