I have recently noticed a problem with my guitar.  I have a fender strat that I put emgx 81 and 60 humbuckers into. when I play through a clean channel on my amp and strum a chord I notice a buzzing noise. it almost sounds like fret buzz, but I don't hear it on the guitar. I recently put the new Ernie ball regular cobalt on the guitar too.

I experimented with this issue and it seemed to have went away when I dropped the pickups almost all the way down flush to the pick guard, but I lost most of my tone.  I have 2 other guitars (ibanez) that have regular emgs in them and they do not have this problem. but they dont have the cobalt strings on them. I also I have a les Paul that has passive pickups and it is strung with the cobalts as well but doesn't have this problem.  I don't know if the cobalt, having higher magnetic properties, affects the emgs or what the problem could be.

I'm going to replace te strings on my strat with regular nickle wound strings and see if it changes anything, but in the mean time I was hoping you could help shed some light on this problem I have.  oh and I play through a line 6 spider valve 212 amplifier.

I havnt checked the battery in bout 8 months but ive had them go bad before and it doesn't sound like that, my distortion channels sound fine, just that clean channel when I strum heavily sounds like the ringing is slightly overdriven. I'll check the bat tonight though just to rule that out, an other suggestions?

Clearly, you have some form of signal degradation. Distortion channels/units oftentimes mask this. First, check the battery. If the battery is not the culprit, you have an impeded signal flow somewhere in the wiring.
