They will pull off, you may need to coax them a little with a flat head screwdriver prying them a little from opposite sides being careful not to dig into the pick guard.

Try tilting the knobs lightly to and fro till its loose enough to slide in a cloth, wrap the knob around with it and pull it off....i did that for mine.Hopefuly it does for you...

Take two teaspoons and slide the tips of the spoons under the knob skirt, opposing one another. Press down on the handles (like levers) and lift the knob off, simply and safely (you can't nick your pickguard with a spoon, and you won't bend the shaft by forcing the knob back and forth).

While we are on the subject could someone post a picture of the tone and volume controls all at 10 so that it's easier to put the knobs back on correctly?

Yeah. They put on plastic as a guard while its a demo at the store so when you take it home all you do is peel it write off.NOTE: its probley easier to take it off when your strings are off.

you don't have to take the plastic off, but after a while, it'll start coming off anyways. and after so long, it gets really sticky and hard to get off when you want it to, so its best to get it off when you can.

To get the knobs off without using forks, spoons, screwdrivers or anything that could break the knobs or scratch your guitar try a shoelace.
Wrap the middle of the shoelace around the shaft under the knob, you may have to wiggle the knob back and forth a little to get the shoe lace under it. Then grab each end of the shoelace, pull them straight up, now pull on each end one at a time back and forth. The knob should come off with just a few pulls. Watch out though I have had the knob shoot across the room.

Wow, some interesting ideas... mine never gave me trouble, I just pulled 'em off using my hands! :P
Try using your fingernails.
