I went and played some USA Legacy models and I thought they were horrible.
Not nearly as comfortable as a USA Strat and no character or vibe, very ugly too! Sounded sterile.
I just wish I could find a USA Strat like the G&L that has two humbuckers and a hard tail bridge.

Maybe I will get another PRS CE-22.

Fender used to make USA Strats with dual humbuckers, but they haven't had an HH model since about 2006. Also they weren't necessarily hard tails either.

If you're looking for one, you should be looking for these models:

1996-2000 Big Apple Strat - basically an American Standard (original 1986-2000 spec neck and body) with a Duncan '59 in the neck spot and a Duncan Pearly Gates + in the bridge spot, a 5-way switch, and could be had with either a trem or a hard tail bridge.

2000-2003 American Series Double Fat Strat - when the American Series replaced the American Standars in July 2000 the HH model was renamed. Same deal though - an American Series Strat with the Duncan '59 and Pearly Gates + and could be had with either the trem or a hard tail.

2003-2006 American Strat HH - in mid-2003 Fender changed the pickups to their own models and added the S1 switch so you had 9 different positions instead of 5 (the bridge humbucker unsplit was the same with the switch up or down). Unfortunately some time during the run of this version the hard tail was dropped; I don't remembe when that happened.

Of course if you turn up a trem version you could always deck or block the trem.

Your other option would be to find an American Standard or American Series hard-tail Strat and change the SSS pickguard out for an HH pickguard. You wouldn't need any routing because the early American Standards (1986-circa 1998) had the swimming pool route; starting during 1998 they switched to an HSH route so either way you're covered.

G&Ls can be good guitars, but like you I rarely find one I can bond with, and have never gotten on with their strat-style guitars, only their tele-styles. I don't care for their 2-post trem.

Thanks for the great info guys!!!! I will look into all if those. Great help.
I am fine with a trem and blocking or locking down as I do with my others.

Out of all the models and years mentioned in this thread, are certain years and models considered better?

Used double fat strats are impossible ro find.

I would he happy with just a fat strat but I hate middle pickups so I may get another used PRS CE-22.

Not so sure about the Jim Root Strat. No fret markers. I am not a shred God or master of the guitar. I need my fret markers, LOL.

For all the variations of the USA two-humbucker Strat I would personally give a slight edge to that "American Series Double Fat Strat" that was made from July 2000 to about August 2003 over the Big Apple Strat (the 1996-June 2000 model). I think Fender did some nice updates when the original American Standards became the American Series like the rolled neck edges, staggered height tuners and the 50s/60s-style body contours. Those two models both have the Duncan pickups, which are more vintage-voiced and I prefer them to the hotter humbuckers that Fender used in the American Strat HH that was made from about August 2003 until it was discontinued at the end of 2006.

That being said if you like hotter humbuckers than I would go with the HH - the Big Apple/Double Fat Strat would be a bit less "modern" sounding than a PRS CE-22 with Dragon IIs, the HH would be a bit hotter than the Dragon IIs but not as hot as the old Dragon Is on the CE-22.
