Lay the guitar down on it's back. Now look at the two outer strings along the neck. Is one string closer to the edge of the fretboard at the 17th fret? Or are they both exactly the same distance from the edge of the fretboard all the way up and down the neck?

Thanks for the reply, I took a look as instructed and at the 17th fret and the Low E is further outward. Obviously the thickness is going to contribute to that, but I definitely think it's a little off.
I suppose I could give this a shot - I'll see if i can find any guidance videos on youtube.

Sorry, I don't understand how tightening the neck against the pocket will close the gap at the back of the neck. I'm clueless with Fender necks, I've always had set necks till now.

I don,t see that as a gap at the back of the neck. Im just not seeing it. The fretboard extends over the pickguard so seeing the fit at the back of the pocket is hard to do from a pic.

I'm just comparing it to what mine looks like, though if I plays well it doesn't matter.

Hmmm, that is strange! Mine clearly has a gap that most don't. I need to work out how to get it sorted!
I certainly opened a can of worms with this one, haha - at least it takes my mind off the crack.

For the gap - Tune up the guitar, place the rear of the guitar on a solid surface with the neck pointed straight up, loosen the neck screws a turn or two and let the neck settle into the rear of the pocket. Make sure that both E strings are parallel to the edges of the fretboard. Then tighten the neck screws and re-tune.

I gave it a shot! I turned each screw once, then twice and nothing happened, so I continued to turn the screws a total of about 5 times, till the neck was almost off the body, nothing shifted at all. I'm thinking I should probably get it looked at.

That gap may not be the problem with alignment or the body, your neck looks like it is missing wood underneath the fretboard. Compared to the other one which has wood up to halfway between the frets, yours has wood to only just past the fret. Maybe some more experienced strat guys on this forum can chime in on this issue.

That should have pulled your neck straight so that the strings are parallel to the neck. If they are not push on the neck one way or the other until they are parallel then tighten the screws. Forget about the "gap" it may just be the way the pickguard is routed that makes it look like it has a problem.

Take it to a luthier/tech - a Standard is worth the cost of you not damaging it further. While he's at it, have him install strap locks.
