+1, the closer the pickups, less sustain.

Another thing, you stated above 7th fret, which tells me you have
minimal buzz, just enough to kill your note.
Let's check things.
With left hand fret 1st fret low E, rt hand low E last fret.
Now look at the middle 12th fret area, is there a gap?
I would say an acceptable gap would be about a heavy pic
1 or 2 playing cards.

Yeah if the neck is too flat little trussrod adjustment will do wonders.
If you like low action maybe you need fret dressing.
Sure the neck is not a little twisted ?
Anyway : a good luthier should have spotted those problems already...

You also stated that changing string to 011 helped, but realize that you need your guitar to be setup again... your neck / bridge - tremolo will react different to heavier strings.

When you go from 011 to 010 the changes that you will have buzzing is normal.
So going back to 011 will remove the buzz again ... but that doesn't mean you are obligated to play with 011 if you like 010 more... just a good setup is required.
