Just a guess, but maybe LE is "Limited Edition" :?:

Thanks for the replies...

Well, it is US made and purchased new at a local Fender Dealer who labled it - Fender Special Run American Vintage '57 Stratocaster.

I see from the production tag that it is an FSR 57 Strat CAR and that the serial # is LEO 2639. The Neck Plate is stamped Limited Edition 2639.

My concern is that the serial# is not recognized by any of the decoders nor is it listed in the drop-down menu for product registration.

I'd simply like to know exactly which strat I have.

TIA!

cheers!

Is it possible that this is a " new format " serial number and does'nt appear in the "old " serial number data base ?

Does it look like this?

http://www.guitar-district.com/servlet/ ... der/Detail

Hard to tell, but the neck plate looks like the serial could start with LE.

@JasonSD

YES !! That's it exactly ! The Neckplate does indeed say Limited Edition and the Serial # says LE02639

Confusing that it doesn't pop up on the product registration page though...

This is my 1st Strat... what do you guys think of it? Should I add the 5-pole switch (which came with it) ? Are these good pickups?

Any recommendations on amps (currently just using an Orange Crush practice amp), pedals and boxes?

cheers!

Thanks again for all the info.. !!

Interestingly, if you run the serial # through the guitar dater project, but omitting the LEO prefix, you get:

Guitar Info
Your guitar was made at the Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA in the Year(s): 1954

Fender: Fullerton
The Fullerton factory opened in 1946, Fullerton California with the first major electric solid body guitar production began in 1950 with the Broadcaster (later known as the Telecaster). Sold in 1965 to CBS who in 1985 sold Fender to a group of private investors the plant was not included in that sale and was subsequently closed.

I wish...

cheers!

I'm pretty sure it's prefix LE followed by 5 digits. If you look at the new(ish) FSR '62 Tropical Turquoise Strat's, they have the same serial format (there's several on Ebay with visible neckplates)

That's just because in 1954 serials were 4 digits. Enter any 4 digit # and guitardater will tell you it's a mid 50's guitar. In fact almost any 4 - 6 digit# will be returned as "valid", including 4 and 5 digits starting with 0 (like 00001)

I didn't realize that Fender was using the "LE" neck plates on those FSR AV'57s; I thought they just had a regular AV neck plate. I've seen the "LE" and also the "SE" ("Special Edition") neck plates used on the various AV Thin Skin runs done for Wildwood Guitars in Colorado and Dave's Guitar in Wisconsin.
