I just ordered an EC strat. This is the first guitar that I have ordered as my others have come off the wall. Is there anything special that needs to be done that I am unaware of or can I pretty much tune the strings and go to town. I thought I read somewhere in this forum that there needs to be some tuning done to it that will cost an additional $50 or so by a tech but I can't remember where I saw it. Thanks....

You should be able to take it out of the box and play...

Unless you need a setup, which I'm sure you could do yourself.

I haven't touched a screw on mine sine I got it in 91 Plays fine for me; tunes up well too.

If you ordered from a decent shop they should do a setup on it for you for free.

Well I ordered it through an authorized Fender dealer listed on this website, so I am hoping that they would be considered decent and would take the step to perform this for me. We'll see....

Contact the Salesman you bought it through and see if that is part of their service. If it is not, you might want to pay to have it done.

Hello Lafromla1,

When you get the box let it acclimate slowly
to room temp before opening. Cold nights
on the road and a toasty lining room----
just a good idea.

Cheers.

I doubt that they'll do a setup, free or otherwise, unless you request it.

I got a Custom Classic last December, it came set up to my standards right out of the box. Maybe the Custom Shop sets up their guitars before shipment. All I had to do was tune it.

Spoke to the dealer and he said he'll do a setup for free when it comes in. He's actually stoked to see a Candy Green one come in as well.
