Hi

Never touched a System 1 trem before, but I'm assuming this one
needs major adjustment. Is that the case by looking at the pics I have
included?

Thanks for any tips to getting this in prime working order! The strings are 9's.

Well the 2 post screws need to be screwed down more, do it with the strings loose though. and looks like the screws for the springs in the back will need to be tightened as well.

I can post pics of mine if you want?

Is the goal in the end to get the base of the bridge parallel with the
guitar body? I just cant see any benefit to having it at the extreme angle
the original owner left it at.

Well, the goal I think would be to get the action the way you like it, but the 2 screws for the pivot shouldn't be sticking that far out. On mine, those 2 screws are almost all the way down. I have my action on this guitar a little higher than my others, cause this is the guitar I play when I'm trying to play slide guitar.

Loosen the strings, screw down those 2 screws almost all the way, tighten the 2 screws on back a few turns, and then tune it and see how the action is.

Alright. Thanks! Ill get adjusting this weekend.

Other thing I was wondering is how easily the trem bar shoud pop in? I looked
down in the hole for the trem and l see what looks like a ball bearing that would
grab onto the bar. However I couldnt get the trem bar to "pop" in. Maybe there's a
tension adjustment.

I was using the Fender mytouch last year, but switched to Verizon now, but still use the Fender phone as a mp3 player in my shop.

It depends on the thickness of strings and how many springs.
Also if you want the trem to work both ways.
I have mine set bottomed out pretty much but what you do is lower your outside saddles till there bottomed out then raise or lower the trem to the desired level somewhere around 3/32 at the 18th fret then adjust the rest of the saddles to the desired height. If you want it to work both ways raise the trem and lossen the springs.

I guess it also depends on the type of trem. I think if you just loosen the springs on this type you can still leave it set low and it will work backwards.
