This was my first thought aswell.

Once you've got a nice tube amp that fits your playing style, it is difficult to go without it.

Emphasis on NICE. Meaning great. There are tube amps and then there are tube amps. Tubes by themselves do not a great amp make.

And great hands of course.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

So we're thinking its that old box and then the Man behind the pick. This makes sense. When you do not feel it, it does not come out, I would imagine that everyone at one point or time picks up his favorite strat cranks up that great tube amp and nothing good comes out....Anyone?????

Sure if your just not feelin' i, and playing because you maybe have to for a show, it comes across as not quite as good. You know it, the band knows it, people that know you know it. Still may be good, but if your not totally "into it" it shows. Take the Grateful Dead for instance. I've been to A LOT of Dead shows(was a long time ago, but hey!) Some nights were so..so.. some nights were really good, some nights were MAGIC! Can't make yourself feel it, you do or you don't, and it shows.
