Talent for sure, but i think you also have to FEEL it. Many "technical" players are very good, but beyond ability they sound sterile, but someone who plays from their "soul" to me is how they do it!

In my mind, "technical ability" + "soul" = "talent".

Amplifier.

almost any guitar can sound amazing if youve got a pukka amp/pedal to play it through. stick a custom shop guitar through a crap amp and it'll sound crap, even if the guy playing is good.

It's completely subjective, based entirely on the perception of the listener.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Howdy Bill,

Your the first engineer I've come across consider "soul" quantifiable enough to make it into an equation. Love it! 8)

Cheers!

You simply have to play with emotion and a belief in your abilities, the rest will follow.
