So I bought a Classic Series '50 Strat a while back and the time has come to restring it. The problem is, the strings wont push out the back. I unwound the E6 from the tuning peg and everything, but it seems the strings are stuck. I'm sure there's probably an easy, stupid solution to this that I'm overlooking so I'd appreciate some help. I'd rather not have to take it in to a tech.

Toothpick from the front to push the string end out the back. Happens to everyone. Even the "magical" bullet ends will get stuck sometimes, especially in the soft cast blocks.

+1 Shimmy. I remember the first time that happened to me, my uncle just sat there laughing at me trying to figure it out...of course he left me sitting there for about 20 minutes before handing me a toothpick! Hand little items they are!

I just take the low E string (which never seems to get stuck), bend it in half and shove that down the front to pop out the stuck string.

Thanks for the tip. Now I can spend time with the vintage tuning machines. Oh joy.

I always cut a small section of the low E string I just changed out in case I need a little push. Saves me a trip to the kitchen for a toothpick.

I remember the first time I changed the strings in my first guitar, a Starcaster. I sat there pissed off because the high E would not come out and the string had no push to get it out. After about 15 minutes of frustration my son came up and used the low E string to push the ball out. So much for my fancy engineering degree.....

I had this happen a few times and was using the low E string to get them unstuck. Since I've switched to the Fender Original Bullets it hasn't happened once. 1994 MIM strat.

I too do the low E string trick, have also used a very small allen wrench. Really any sturdy "tool" that you can fit in there should get the job done. Don't be embarrassed many good people here to lend a helping hand. Remember the only stupid question is the one you DON'T ask 8)
