I've played them both and they each have some good points, but I live on an island so I can't keep getting back to compare. Which would you prefer and why? New Standard or Am. Deluxe?

Both kick butt, If you have the extra dollars Am deluxe is always a good choice.

Interesting, I have an American Deluxe HSS model from 2007.
I think, overall the deluxe is the better guitar, with the locking tuners and straplocks, wich are very pleasant. But I see the american standard as the non bs strat. From what I heard and know, the deluxe has the noiseless pickups, but having them myself, I'm sure they do not sound better, the SCN miss that Fender tone( although they sound nice). So I'm swapping the pups someday!

But as I said overal I think the deluxe is better although the standard may just sound a little better from the start, just my 2 cents.

Now that I've got my similar to vintage-tone CS Texas Specials, I want to put SCNs in my Squier, which hums like a mother now. That guitar's kind of a deadwood guitar anyway. Even though they're not vintage and lack the classic complexity of tone, something about those SCNs appeals to me, especially with high gain. I'd like the AmDx with the countoured heel too because that's the way all of them should be, although you do get used to it. So many guitars . . . so little budget.

I just bought an American Deluxe Strat. Chrome silver in color with black pickups and black dials, along with a black pearloid pickguard. I love it and all the sounds I can get with the S-1 switching.

I also looked at the American Standard (2008) and that was a great guitar also. So whatever you choose.....you can't lose. I think it's fine tuning with picking those two..........all about person choice and what you like.

I picked the standard because there was nothing extra on the deluxe that I though was worth paying for. At least not for what I want to do.
