Right out of the gate on this thread, reference was made to the likelihood that we have played tennis with this ball more times than we'd like to remember. I can vouch for the fact that we have had some pretty interesting data set forth to support contentions one way or the other. It appears that we are going to have at it in another go 'round so please, enjoy yourselfs, and I'll just tag along for the ride.

My Highway One Stratocaster came of the stand in perfect tune today. I used the whammy bar to warm up the strings first. The D and G strings were slightly flat after warming up the strings with the trem bar. So, I tuned the D and G strings up to pitch and let loose and the thing stayed in tune. After an hour of practice, I put it down. Let me check it again... ...cold (the A/C is crankin'), the A was slightly flat. So, I launched into the whammy bar and it came back in perfect tune.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what the fuss is all about...try to help a guy out and the nay sayers come along and bash the truth -- shocking.

This reminds me of the second to last time my guitar was in tune. (The windows were open.) After a really long time, it went out of tune. So, I retuned it. Now it's back in tune. No fuss here. :?

When it comes to fretboards my favorite has always been a rosewood board strictly due to feel. I also agree you could put on 50 recordings of guys playing maple and rosewood boards and it is all going to be a 50-50 guess to the listener. Well unless it is Eric Johnson lol.

I used to be one of those that believed maple fretboards had a brighter snappier sound than the rosewood ones, but I played a guitar that changed my views. It was a Tele with a thin satin finish fretboard, nearly felt like bare wood.

Now I believe it was the poly clear coat on the fretboard giving the snappier tones, and not so much the different wood.

OK... Relative Know-Nothing here...

I have a Telecaster w/ Rosewood Fretboard and a Stratocaster w/ Maple. I 'play' them both equally, and enjoy them both equally...

I am intrigued at the thought of a Telecaster w/ a Maple Neck (this would be a 2nd Tele as I love the one I have)...

But, I am not intrigued by a Stratocaster w/ a Rosewood Fretboard...

I have NO idea what this means... just passing along my thoughts...

cheers!

I'm not sure my ear is good enough to pick out the part of any guitar's tone which is attributable to maple or rosewood on the board (and I have both) but then I can barely tell the different between pepsi and coke. There are probably folks who can do both of these things.

I have a tele style guitar with a maple neck/rosewood fret board - it's a custom build with a natural finish ash body, black single ply scratch plate, and all original Fender US hardware. I've never been sold on the look of the rosewood with the natural body, so at the weekend I ordered a maple/maple neck for it.

Will I be able to hear a difference after the swap? I don't expect to, but from reading this and the myriad other threads weighing this particularly thermogenic spud, I suppose I might...

Depends upon who is paying.

Back to the point.....It might be of use to group all of the past discussions we've had on this into a common thread not unlike Andy's build thread. We'd have a consolidated reference point for any new inquiry. This would serve a useful purpose without ruffling any feathers on the part of someone who might feel they're being pushed aside.

I used to use tortoise colored picks for many years and then I switched to white ones for several more. Currently, I'm using an orange one. This is, unless of course, I'm playing with my thumb and/or fingers. Even here though, sometimes I'll use a pick AND my fingers. I'm contemplating a symposium comparing and contrasting how the neck's finish resonates among the above scenarios. I haven't used a capo in decades so I'm inclined to surmise that any data would be incomplete yet still with some value. And then there's the plastic vs. clay dot fret marker(s) preponderance. In the final analysis however, I'm in the Ginger camp.
