I read the intro overview and specs.
Read there are butterscotch finishes, etc.
But nothing about the special lacquer.
What am I missing or misunderstanding?

OK. I see NFFCL ~
But, what makes this "reverse engineering" idea prevelant?

Cannot it be just "NEW"?

Just wondering. Toppscore :)

A lacquer finish is cool. It will wear though. I have a satin lacquer (dull clear coat over the color coat) that shows wear after very minimal playtime. I usually buy used so prefer poly because, if not too severe, light scratches can be polished out of the thick finish.

Its possible California placed more chemical restrictions on something used in nitro finishes, so fender may have had to come up with a new formula. that's all i can come up with anyways, I am still digging though.

Not to bug anyone in a bad way, but the term "reverse engineering" was
used in the first posts. I have no problem with NEW.
It is just my interest in "reverse engineering" that struck my chord.

I find it an interesting subject.
Did not Marshall reverse engineer the Fender Bassman amp?
Does not Dumble and Trainwreck pour resins over their circuit boards?

I am going to trademark all of my writings so I can get royalty on copyrights
Toppscore 8)

well I emailed fender asking about the chemical composition and changes in the coating. when I hear back I will post what they tell me. I really don't think they spent any more funding on R&D to reverse engineer paint  but I have been wrong before
I have a strong feeling its only to meet some regulation requirement.

Me, also. I agree.

Just wondering about the "reverse engineering" rumor.
Reason for it? Who started it? Purpose of it?

Can we get more information? Did you reverse engeneer the old easy-to-worn
lacquer of the '50's? I really love the look of an spotted maple neck.

Above is the quote.
More of a question and inquiry than a statement of fact.
No big deal, anymore.

I called consumer services and I got some answer :

the new flash coat is :

thin Polyurethane sealer
lacquer sealer
and an mist of nitrocellulose lacquer ( thinner than ever )

the guitar won't get buffed/sanded out as much as previous model ( my 2002 '57 reissue got an thick coat of about 1/32 inch )

So maybe : it will be easier to worn out

end of story ...
