Hey guys new to the forum but thought I would start off things with a bang.

My name is Brett and I have been modding guitars as long as I have been playing them. This was my latest relic I just finished and figured would start my life on this forum with a bang..

So on with the show..

This build started when I bought a broken neck on ebay, after I did the repair, I sanded her down and aged and ambered her. From there I began hunting for a body, I found a good deal on a Poly Olympic White body and began digging through the parts drawer for parts to finish her.

I had a old Single Ply bevel edged pickguard laying around and wanted to do something 50's inspired. So I began by sanding the bevel off and rounding all the edges to simulate the old bakelite parts. This carried over to the knobs and pickup covers as well. I aged them from their snow white color to a dirty white.

Now I know some are going to say Poly RELIC come on it cant be done, well yes and no, can I get huge wear marks nope not really unless you make it look like 90% of the relics on ebay LOL (SANDINGRELICS) but what you can do is add heavy wear via other methods. One of those methods is Razor Checking, this simulates the checking nitrocellulose would do back in the day. So off I went. Next was to age the white, which I did with a mixture of good ol mother natures sun, and some stains etc.

Well as you can see she is a heavy relic, and I love her. I was going to sell it to raise cash for a Fiesta Red Nitro Build but I cant. We have bonded LOL..

Anyways hope I can become a proud member of this forum... Enjoy...

Brett

Welcome to the forum...lots of great info here and while I am not a big fan of the relics, nice job and a bit different from the others and as long as you enjoy it, that is all that really matters :!: And we do love guitar porn here, nice pics.

Enjoy it.

I've never seen checking like that before on a white finish. Looks a little phony to me, sorry.

You've seen it on another finish?

While this is obviously not the way a guitar checks (ever), if you're happy with it then that's all that matters.. Welcome aboard sir.

For an objective comparison, post some some pics of Fenders with that degree of lacquer checking. Failing that, your "relic" job has little validity.

I guess if you like it thats all that matters, I still don't see the point to un-natural relic jobs.

Interesting and unique. That must have taken some time!
I almost thought it had a dull chrome pickguard from the first photo which would have been nice as well. :D

I'm still waiting for that BANG!

I thought you're gonna show us your real 1954 Strat. :(

With a fake relic (which means to me personally: f*****g up an otherwise fine instrument) the bang goes poof! Well, maybe that's just me.

On the positive side: it looks more "real relic" than any Mexican Fender Road Worn series guitar I've ever seen! So, imho, you did a relatively good job with that relicing (besides the fact that the finish on plain surface strats checks a little different than on rounded top LPs).

Not a bad job, it's different, which is what counts....
I'm also not a fan of the relic by artificial means, but to each their own. I prefer the reliced over time method....
You know that first ding feels like stubbing your toe in the middle of the night, then the other's hurt a little less each time......

Les Paul finishes have checking that is quite different than Fender finishes. Apples and oranges there, comparison fail.

I just think the OP's guitar looks fake, my opinion. There's too much and it's very unnatural looking, the chips and dings show just how thick the poly is....

I like the reliced guitar(s) from the OP more than many of the things Fender puts out. I think it´s just a personal thing of liking it or not.
The finish checking looks great to me, better than the Road Worn thing but it´s like a color. Some hate Antigua some love it. Think about an Antigua with a scalloped fretboard, how many people would like that? Maybe, just me.

Cheers,
Robin

To each his own..

If a guitar doesn't get "there" via the normal aging process, it at least to me, should be more subtle.

Personally I think this is a little over the top. kinda like it was dragged behind a pickup truck for a few miles.

that said, if it floats your boat, have at it, and by all means go off and do a hundred of them, and I honestly hope you sell them for great $$gains$$..

I just wont be buying one! :D

welcome to the forums
