I am going to be buying this guitar, and I am told it is a Fender. I have no idea what model this is. I figured this would be the perfect place to ask. If anyone can help me figure out the model or model number, it would be appreciated. Thanks for any help! Even if it isn't in pristine shape, I am only paying $5 for it and I am told all it needs is new strings and an amp.

Thanks! After looking on youtube and google, I am pretty 99% sure it's a Heartfield Talon like you said. Thanks again!

Heartfield brand name started in 1989 and built by Fujigen, which was the factory responsible for much of Fender Japan's production. As a reciprocal arrangement, Heartfield was distributed in the US thru FMIUS. The line designed by both Fender Japan and Fender US featured models too radical to bear the Fender name, some did have Heartfield by Fender on the headstock.
The guitars were phased out in 1993 and in the final year selected examples did appear with the Fender Logo only.

I got this info from the " The Fender Electric Guitar Book " by Tony Bacon...

The Talons had aggressive Ibanez RG body styling!

To me, HSH Strats are 1990s Japanese MIJ from Fender.
So, you have a Japanese 22 Fret wannabee Heavy Metal Axe.
Most all MIJ Fenders are cool.
From what I recall, Japan was the first foreign country
to make decent Fender guitars. Then came Mexico.
So, IMHO, MIA MIJ & MIM are all good guitars.
Toppscore :)

Heck! The case would be a deal at $5. Take it and try not to giggle the whole way home.

That Heartfield might need a bit more work than just a set of strings but for $5 I would also take it. That Floyd Rose looks really rusty - I would make sure that it works and the clamps haven't rusted shut.

Still, for $5 you could afford to drop the cash for a replacement Floyd and still have a nice 80s-style shredder on the cheap. Other than that you're looking at just your time investment to clean it up and set it up.

EDIT: Evidently the folks at Strat Central also did a website on the Heartfields (cleverly called "Heartfield Central" ); lots of info on the Talons here:

http://www.heartfield-central.com/

I had forgotten this - these were called the "Heartfield Talon" for most of their run but sometime in 1991 they became the "Fender Talon" - so while most are Heartfields some have a Fender logo on the headstock.

The case comes with it too! I figured it's well worth it even if it needs a lot of TLC. Roughly how much is it to fix the rusty parts? That's pretty much all I am worried about.

@John C

Talons feature an RGish body shape.
