Hey forum,
So, I've always been a Gibson man. Always. But today I took the plunge to owning my first Fender. I went to down to my GC, and played an AVRI '57, seafoam green. Unfortunately, the sunburst wasn't in stock so I put one on order, and should be here in the next week. I figured that if I'm going to get a Strat, why not get the classic sunburst, on a reissue of the holy grail? The fact that it had a nitro finish and one piece neck (the v-neck felt great, by the way) won me over.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can't wait for it to come in!

Anyone else here on the forum own an AVRI? I haven't seen to many, surprisingly. If you do, I'd love to see pics of yours!

'57...Congrats...and we'll expect photos once it arrives! You will love the 57 reissue, they are great guitars.

Here is mine...I am the original owner and it is from 1982. It was my main gigging guitar in the early to late 80's.

Guess what?
I've always been a Fender man and just happened to purchase my first Gibson today, a Firebird V.
I also have to wait a little until it arrives from the USA. :D

*shake hands*

I've owned three Gibsons, a '96 LP Studio, a '03 LP Std and an ES335. I wasn't that impressed with either. I got them so I would have a different sound than my Fender guitars, but they just never got played. The '96 was pretty good, but I loved my '87 Strat Plus more and needed a new amp.

The '03 looked great, but I could never get a sound I liked out of it. Also it never stayed in-tune. As for the ES335, well it was nice, but it too suffered from tuning issues and the neck didn't feel that great.

On the other hand I've played earlier LPs and ES335 and love them.

In the end I traded my LP Std. for a PRS McCarty model. I owned owned the LP Std for about 10 years and played it about 20 times.

I've owned the McCarty about 2 months and I've lost count how many times I've played it.

Any thoughts on the McCartys?

Gibson puts out amazing guitars these days. I bought a Gibson SG Junior 60s and it´s a tone monster and plays absolutely awesome.
I love my Strats though but hands down that is one great guitar.

Cheers,
Robin

AL...Thanks. Sometimes they give me GAS too! The 65 BFSR is a recent pickup from four or five months ago...it is all original save two speakers and got it at a GC no less, and paid a paltry $1K for it. The Bantam Bass Amp was this past winters project. I replace that stupid Yamaha speaker that came in it with a 65 Jensen 15 inch Concert Speaker I got from Retroverbial...made a new baffle, and reused the grill cloth and got it good and tight...it was a fun project. I did a build with pics over on the Vintage Amp Forum side of it. The Concert (II) I bought new in 1984 with cover and all, and used it for most of my gigging in the 80s...it is all original except for a recent cap job. The 64 Princeton was a find over 15 years ago...also has a replaced speaker (a CTS 10 Alnico I also got from Retroverbial)...and it does have some mojo to it's tone. The 68 Champ is...well a champ, sounds great, and it has a Kendrick 8 inch Blackframe in it. The cab is a like new 66 Bassman cab and has two very nice Jensen C12Q's in it.

FWIW
