Recently I got to play a FSR American Standard that comes with C69 pups and I just loved the sound: super clean, good presence, and well balanced. (A forum search reveals that not everyone shares the same love for these pups.)

[] Other than FSR and Custom Shop guitars, do any Strats come equipped with C69 pups?
[] For anyone who has put C69 in a MIM Standard, was this a matter of swap and play or was it more complicated?

Thanks & Cheers!

I know of no regular production line Strats which come OEM with them.

They would be a direct swap and play affair. Note that the middle pickup would is not RW/RP and so, you would not get hum cancellation in positions 2 or 4.

You're forgetting the MIM Classic Player 60s with the 69 pups.

Wow, I've had yet another "Senior Moment". Thank you for correcting me!

As soon as I read shimmilou's post I was out the door in search of a Classic Players 60s Strat. Now maybe it's all in my head, or maybe it's a case of love at first sight but what I remember from my first experience several weeks ago with the C69s on a FSR American Standard is quite different than what I heard earlier today with the C69s on a Classic Players 60s Strat. The sound from the FSR AmStrat had more punch, more body, more octane than the Classic Players 60s. In both instances I was playing through a Fender Deluxe.

Now I'm willing to accept that it's all in my head but I'm wondering if there may be other factors at work. Again, there wasn't a dramatic night and day difference, but it was remarkable.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. As always, it's very much appreciated.
Cheers!

Possibly part of the difference could be due to the Delta-Tone system on the Am Std.

Also, the Bridge block on the Am Std is different than the block on the CP 60s.

Different tuners between the two models.

The woods could be a little different between the two guitars even if made of the same type of wood, maybe a slight difference in bodies/necks, or maybe more (were both bodies Alder?). You didn't specify if both have a rosewood fretboard. :?:

A few subtle differences can add up to the difference that you heard.

As you mention there are several differences -- for example ash body on the FSR vs. alder for the Classic Player '60s -- and some similarities such as a rosewood fingerboard, but I think you've hit the proverbial nail on the headstock with your suggestion of the Delta-Tone system.

So it's not just a matter of swapping pups. It also depends on the electronics among other things. .... Hmmm .... Well, I'm convinced. I need more Strats. 8)

If they are indeed equipped with the same pickups, the difference you heard is almost certainly due to different pickup heights between the guitars. I just removed a set of CS69's from my Strat. While they were very nice sounding pickups, they were incredibly fussy when it came to height adjustment. I've never spent as much time fiddling with the height adjustment screws to find the right tone than I did with those pickups.
