Hey Guys,

I’m new to the forum, but not new to the great Fender sound. I mostly play blues/rock, and recently had to sell my 2003 MIA Standard Stratocaster. I’ve been talking to a guy on craigslist who has a 95-96 Fender Standard Strat that he has listed for $700 obo. He said he’s willing to trade, and turns out i have a firearm he would like to trade for-legally of course.

He first proposed the trade with me giving him the firearm plus 100 dollars-the firearm sells for $550 new. After I told him I couldnt afford to do that at the moment but might could in the future he said he’d do a straight swap with me if i pay the 25 bucks to register the firearm to him-in other words a fair deal, or moreso me coming out good in the end i suppose-maybe..

Heres some pics of the guitar-can you guys give me an opinion on if you’d make the trade? He says its all original except the nut has been replaced with a bone one by Harry’s guitar Shop in Raleigh. There is a small nick on the side/top of the 6th fret as shown in the pics, and he made me aware of it. The bridge has been raised as well-but everything else is standard.

My question is, does the fretboard appear to have ‘normal’ wear from a 95-96 instrument? Does it ‘look’ to be an authentic American Made strat? He lives about an hour away...I know its not a $2,000.00 guitar but never know when somebody might slap a MIA neck onto a MIM body...and not sure how i’d even spot something like that..Thanks for any advice you guys might have.

Standard Strat is made in Mex. Nothing wrong with that, but is that what you mean, a "Standard"?

A new Mex Standard can be had for $500 or less. A good used one for $300 to $350 or less. He is asking too much for a Standard, unless it's an Am Std, and then, meh, $700 is a bit high, even if it's in great condition.

To post pics, they must be uploaded to a publicly viewable site such as PhotoBucket or similar. Then copy the "IMG" code from the site and paste into your post.

What brand and type of weapon?

And don't tell me you're swapping a Bushmaster M-4 carbine with chrome-bore heavy barrel, flat-top receiver, triple Picatinny rail, EO-Tech optics, laser range-finder, and a Gorilla Grip forestock for a steenking $700 guitar!

Its an American Made Standard, not Mexican made. And I agree, $700 is a bit high for a used one i see them posted for $650 a lot.

Haha the weapon I'm considering trading is a Springfield Armory 40. cal with 17 round clip and case/accessories etc...about 550 to sell it. I dont use it, or even go to the range.

But yea its american made-I figured it was a fair swap for an american made strat.

Well, that seems more like a fair trade for you, if the frets of the guitar are in good shape despite the neck being a little rough. I'm not a fan of the XD to say the least, so maybe a good trade for you.

If it's a good trade for you, go for it. I know I'd much rather lose my hearing playing guitar, than squeezing off rounds at the gun range. Enjoy the strat.

The guitar looks cool and I like the serial number.

Cheers,

Wow

That's a lot of wear for a 7 year old poly neck. He must've played THE HECK out of it.

it's a 1995, that makes it 17 years old...not 7

If you say the gun is only worth $550, and it isn't being used, I'd say you are coming out on top with the trade for many good reasons.
