Hope the question is not too dumb..

Has anyone played the select series strats for 2012 and compared them to custom shop strats? I know the ss comes off the assembly line, but they seem to be real nice. Is the custom shop worth the money?

The Select which I had the privelege of trying at the store was a fine instrument. I liked my CS a little better, no two guitars are alike.

Try a few of each and decide which is the pick of the litter. You can't go wrong either way.

No two guitars are identical. If you like the styling of a production guitar, by all means get it. Custom Shop is when you have specifics you absolutely need that aren't offered in a non CS guitar.

On average, custom guitars generally seem to be a bit nicer players, but not always. I've never had a CS Fender, but I've ordered CS guitars from a couple other places. The reason being I couldn't find what I wanted in their regular production line.

If you can afford the custom, go for it, but if the features are identical to a production guitar, you might as well go for the cheaper option.

Oh, and I would just like to add, most of my guitars are custom builds, but none of my keepers were ones I specifically ordered. So even if you order a custom, it can still be hit or miss.
