Hello everyone, this is my first post! I just bought a Classic Player 60's strat, which is GREAT, and I was wondering about the pickups... 50% of the people I've asked say that these guitar have the "real" CS '69 pickups, and the other 50% say that they are the usual cheap mexican stuff "inspired" by the CS '69 originals.

Fenders official specification for Classic Player 60's says "3 Custom ‘69 Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Grey Bobbins", which is the EXACT same description as on the specs for many of the Custom Shop models, I mean the really really expensive ones.

So does anyone know for sure; what pickups are on the Classic Player 60's?

Thanks,
Fredrik Groth, Sweden

Whoops, pushed back to page 2...

No one knows, or no one cares? Question too stupid? Asked too many times?

cheers,
Fredrik

Congratulations, that tone won't disappoint you :)
If the spec's says it has custom '69s with Grey Bobbins I'm pretty sure it has
As I know the Classic Player 60's strat was designed by the Custom Shop to match some favorite features, so I guess the pu's has to be 'real'
Lovely pu's :D

I also own a 60's classic player (Custom Shop Designed) I am pretty sure they are official custom shop 69' pickups, and though great for clapton sound I am slightly unhappy with the sustain and distortion. So I might switch to texas special pickups.

Right - they are the real deal... I have CS 54's on my American 50th anniversary... they sound insane but really noisy. I've got a Callaham pickguard shield that I'll install tomorrow so it will clean up (hopefully)!

Question is; do they *still* have them as I read on several forums that they now use mexican copies??

I dunno about the "cheap Mexican copies". Never heard that myself. I thought they had the Custom Shop '69's. The real ones.

Howdy!

I believe the CP60's Strat come fitted with pickups "based" on Custom Shop 69 pups. I have no idea where they're manufactured but they're not made in the custom shop. As I understand it you'll only find "Custom 69 pickups" in a Classic Players 60's strat.

Here's the rear of my CP60's pickguard...

They sound great regardless of where they were made. Very bright, spanky and straty strat pups! :D

Hope this helps.

Andy

the specs before used to say custom shop 69s, now the specs say custom 69s.
my cp 60s came with, more than sure they are custom shop 69s, mine are initialed AY
or they have abby written, dont remember.
andy's dont have any initials are writings.

im a firm believer that no 2 pickup sets are exactly alike.

Sounds like a good question for Fender.
