So I came across this lady that's selling me this Stratocaster. But she has no clue if it's an american standard Stratocaster or anything of it. All she knows is that it's a Fender Stratocaster with synchronized tremolo (since that's what it says on the headstock.) She said it was a $1400 guitar. Any help with this one? :?:
I really want to buy this guitar she's giving me a pretty good deal but I'd like to know what I'm getting, I really dig this color.

Need picts of the neck-plate, the back of the headstock, the serial number (maybe on the heel of the neck if a MIJ/CIJ model). It looks like some kind of a 62 reissue in Daphne Blue ....

Yeah that's what I was thinking too, but the 62 Reissues come with rosewood fretboards right? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a newbie here :?

Yep, Mexican Classic '50s -- the decals are under the finish instead of on top of the finish like the American Reissues.

There's some chance it's a Japanese reissue -- before they introduced the Mexican Classic series they imported similar Japanese models, and with eBay & the internet sometimes the Japanese reissues show up here in the States.

The Japanese models aren't worth much more than the Mexicans so $450~500 is about right either way.

Wow really? I was offering her $600 since she said it cost $1400 originally in 2004. She also said she had it for $950 originally. :|

Without seeing SN I will still say 99% 50's classic series. If the SN# on the back of your headstock is M followed by numbers then make that 100%. $1400 is way out of range. I got mine for$250, I realise I got a really good deal, but I wouldn't pay more than$500 dead mint. Unless we're missing something here and it's a avri, which I say it's not.

Nope. The MIJ/CIJ '50s and '60s models have their string trees correctly located on the headstock. The MIM (and AVRI) '50s and '60s re-issues do not.

wow, $250, that's one hell of a deal you got yours for. Yeah I really want this guitar but I just had to take back my offer for $600 considering new they go for $649.99. She refuses to go any lower than $600. DAMN! I really want this guitar. She says its in mint condition. How much should I offer her?

Hi DayTripperLennon: that depends entirely on whether it's the Made in America version, or the Mexican, or the Japanese. To be certain about that we need to know the serial number. The difference is several hundreds, so it matters.

Tell us the number and all things will follow.

Cheers - C

It's missing a string, I wouldn't go over $100. :)

Ok, I usually see them used for about $400 if it's a MIM, so I wouldn't go over that if I really wanted it. Anymore and I would rather look for a MIJ reissue.

+1
If it has M+numbers, it is Mexican, and like I said no more than$500 dead mint. Like Ceri said, post the SN# and you will get your answer.
this is my 50's classic series(seller replaced pickguard, I haven't replaced it for 8 hole yet)

Hi Ceri, yeah it's mexican. She says, "It's made in Mexico, got it directly from the distribution office in Corona."
I still sent her a text saying I'm willing to do $500 and so far she hasn't replied. I guess she didn't like my offer. SADLY.

Daphne Blue has been a stock color since they introduced the MIM Classic's in '99 -- there are lots of mint ones at reasonable prices. From sellers who won't string you along telling you that they paid $1400 for one "directly from Fender's distribution office in Corona".
