No, they should be Texas Specials I think.
Maybe EC was here

Cheers,

Where is the "EC", on the back of the pups?

I am not sure why some pickups have EC written on them. When I have seen this it is usually hand written on the back of the pickups in a type of felt pen. You can tell if these are TX Specials if they have the colored dots on the back side of the pickups. There should be one bobbin that has a color on it. I owned a 2000 Limited Edition Strat in Curly Maple that had The EC pickups than cone be seen on this page: http://xhefriguitars.com/page6.html and I am sure they were TX Special pickups... All the SRV Strats had TX Specials as far as I know... Maybe EC was the guy who wound them???

Or gal, that's what I was thinking. IIRC, Abigail Ybarra would sign the pups that she wound herself, but only initial (AY) the pups that someone else wound and that she inspected. Maybe something similar here.

Thanks... Most of the time this forum is a nice place to be. Also EC has nothing to do with Eric Clapton! The colored dots should be: blue on the neck pickup and red on the bridge. For some reason TX Special pus are reverse wound except the middle which is wound "normal"! The middle pickup should have a yellowish colored wires too. Doing this from memory, but think this is right.

I believe that the middle pup (yellow wire) is the only one RWRP.

Nope, the whole set is backwards. I found this out he hard way btw. Not sure why they did the TX Specials that way but the neck and bridge are reverse wound and the middle is standard wound! Crazy eh?

I think I should clarify though. While the neck and bridge are rw the set still acts as a normal set of calibrated pickups with the middle pickup be reverse of the bridge and neck, thus no hum in positions 2 & 4. But if you take the neck pickup, as I have done, and mix it with other pickups, like a vintage set, you will find the pickup is wound backward.

Call me skeptical, but how did you determine this? :?

The middle pup is definitely RWRP in relation to the other two in the set.

I just edited my previous post before I saw you posted. I know this to be true. It is said that he middle pickup on a TX special is "South". For some reason different pickups are would left to right and others right to left. Lol!

Xhefri...What did you think of the Texas Specials as far as sound... :?:
They are going to be the pups installed in the Telepartster I build, I love Tele's but prefer the versatility of a Stratocaster, so I wanted to " Have my Cake and Eat it Too ".
Just to recap I wnated to approach a James Burton style Tele in design and specs but not finish.
Hopefully no one will say " Off with his Head "...

Thanks

BTW ..I have a question on finish for you, I'll PM you not to take up space here or I'll add it to the Telepartster I thread if you visit agin soon...

Love the TS pickups. Even though they do not run a really hot "k" they are a bit fatter. I think combined with heavier strings SRV definately got his tone. The Newer Emerald Lace Sensors do a good job mimicking the tone as well. One just needs to remember these are wound "backward" when you mix them with other pickups. I have read on forums more than once where people would mix a TSP with some other pickups and then wondered why they got a thin, tinny tone on positions 2 & 4. I learned the hard way! One has to swap the wires around and bingo, everything works fine.... if your looking for vintage Strat tone with a little more kick, they are great pickups.

You might already know that the James Burton Tele uses the Blue, Silver, Red Lace Sensors? Really a different tone than the TXS.....

If the Emerald single emulates the Texas Specials, then the Emerald/Purple Dually is supposed to mimic a SD Pearly Gates Plus.

Why not making a "Lonestar" Ultra?
