Hey! It's comming along. Just a hair more carving and I can set up the controls. I had to sink the neck deeper to make it with no pickguard.

Just an updated photo. The thing set up pretty awesome! The intonation was very close and can be adjusted to be darn near perfect! It sounds great un plugged. And cranks plugged in! I guess I have a few bugs to work out before I do the next one but this will do fine for a personal keeper...

So I'm almost ready to put the finish on! Just a few hairlines to sand out! Here's a few shots. I think I'll try to do the next with a little thinner top and back to keep from using long shaft pots or sinking them into the body. The thicker top and back also caused me to cut a trap door in the back to be able to install the five way switch and put a notch inside to install the humbucker. The lower f hole kinda sucks so Im gunna' instal a pick guard simular to a Les Paul to hide it a bit. Next one I'll put the pickups a little closer together as I did not have enough room for the ferrules for the bridge post and will have to mount it on SS screws. I have tested it and it's plenty strong this way.

Hello bajasdogs: you've been busy with those chisels! :D

There's somehow something "Eastwood" about it - and I don't mean Clint! Kinda bendy, in a good way. Personally, I think if you just play with the shape of the neck-end of the treble F-hole a touch, maybe lengthening the tip of the hole a mite, then I don't see anything wrong with it. I certainly wouldn't cover it with a pickguard: show it proudly to the world!

Also, I just love that lump of spalted timber you have there. Maple, I presume, though I'm not sure? Really, really pretty, what with the black fungus lines and that gentle flame. Good choice - I wonder where you found that wood?

Mind you, I'm not envying the job you are going to have hooking up the electrics. Man, that's going to be fiddly. Good luck!

Cheers - C

Thanks Ceri.

I had started with another chunk of cleaner wood but the router dropped and put a hole in my top! :(

I found this chunk of maple on ebay. It's a good place to find wood. but these chunks are hard to find to do one piece bodies.

I think I'm doing a green burst and since that f hole is on the long side of the gutar it might not look bad making it a bit longer. Maybe the finish will blend it in a bit.

It's been fun but it is very stressfull knowing one slip and it's scrap!

Thanks. I've done the electronics in and out! It was not fun to take apart. But the whole wiring will go in thrugh the humbucker hole in one piece. And, no I do not have small hands. The next one will be set up a little different.

Well, I guess it's good enough. LOL I keep breaking the tiny wireing I'm using. I lost a tone pot during the instalation! I think it might be an easy fix though. I think I'll ponder on the next one. It just has to get better.

Now I just need to bring myself to destroy that vintage Jag neck and grind out for the locking tuners!

Actually Not to sound biased, but it's my favorite guitar that I own! It's really light but not neck heavy. Picture fender tones, but with a really surfy hollow sound.... It has really great sustain. I don't know if it's a drawback or not but it is sound sensitive to movement... ? I'll trip out on that one a bit. If I could play better I'd upload a video. LOL!!! I'll have to think on that one a bit.....

Thanks for the pictures. I've been following this topic.

Could you give us a few more words (and pictures?!?) regarding the construction of this body? Please?

Well it is a Maple plank cut in 2 halfs glued together and totals 2 1/8" thick! I carved the top hollow and left a 3/4" thick block around the trem. The back is the same but I left a bridge between the trem block and the neck for the springs to attatch to. The sides are 3/8" thick. The top about a quarter and the back around 5/16". The original wood was harder and I had carved it thinner but I did not think this wood was as stable. Now that I'm done I think I could have went thinner on the back. It has a hot gold in the neck. A Dimarzio area 57 middle and a red and gold humbucker, German Schaller locking tuners and some sort of Kahler roller trem that needs an arm. :O(. I have installed a standard fender five way switch and it is wired fender stock. 3 trem springs with D'Addario XL Chromes. Standard fender cts 250ohm taiwan pots and cap. I have attatched more finished pics. I did not get fancy on the finish as It has to many flaws to be a production model so I'll build a new better one. LOL! I did not want to be to revealing so inside pictures exist only in my head..... In my head, only in my head......

Thanks! I'd say 48 hours = 6 days. Some would argue more. Lol. It was a fun project but the next one won't be done with vintage parts. I think I'll run an add on craigslist and start trading for parts. I really learned alot off this one.
