My Blacktop Strat HH arrived today--it is sweet. :) The case arrives tomorrow. Yes!

So, as I was putting my acoustic guitar in its case tonight with the three Humidipaks, I started thinking--do I need a humidification system for my Blacktop? I live at 6500 ft where it is often low to very low (below 20%) humidity both Summer and Winter. It is not so low in the Spring and Fall. All thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

The humidity in my house is a little low, no more than 40% and even less most of the time. I've had a great number of new guitars develop "fret-sprout" in a relatively short amount of time, including my latest, the Blacktop. I have had to file the fret edges on every one, but no problems other than that. I can't say for sure that it's the low humidity, but that seems to be the consensus.

Thank you for the fast response! I will watch for the fret-sprouting. Just a couple more questions . . . will using fretboard treatments (oils, etc) for a rosewood fretboard reduce fret-sprouting? Also, is there any risk to the guitar components when using the humidipaks or other such products in the case with the Blacktop? Hey, the humidity just went up to 21% at 79 degrees at 11:09pm. :) Love it when it goes in the right direction. Thanks!

shimmiliou , IMO 40 % humidity is very good for a guitar It is nor for me " low ". A solid body is like your furniture in the house, very tough.

A too low humidity for me is 15 % or less with heating in the winter.
