So Gibson was busted and finded for importing illigal rosewood and ebony shipments from India and ebony from Madagascar.

I was just reading about how Taylor Guitars bought a mill in Madagascar.

Triditional tone woods are getting harder to come by these days.

S**t it´s all about money making.
There´s no tone wood, wood is wood.
What really makes me angry is the abuse of great "tonewood" for chairs and tables and matchsticks and doors and that sort of crap.
I have a handmade table(carved and waxed) from India that has great sounding wood, resonant and looks awesome(the wood). One day I´ll take the saw and make a guitar out of that ugly table.
Yeah, wood is getting rare -blablabla- wood grows.
Fender doesn´t use rare(exotic) wood at all, just maple and alder the most. It grows everywhere in America but they buy worldwide, why? they get it cheaper.
Like Gibson, ESP and all guitar builders around the world.

Cheers,
Robin

Fender also uses rosewood, ebony and spruce, but in smaller qualities.

Wood takes years to grow, but minutes to cut down. The real problem is replacement time.

Is this a third time, or are we just revisiting the same topic that has been done-to-death already?

No, Gibson just decided to give in because it was getting too expensive to fight.

They admitted no wrongdoing, they just decided to pay the $300g and say goodbye to the nearly $300k in wood because it would have been far more expensive to keep fighting.
