I bought a used strat that appears to have an American Standard body and an American Special CBC neck. Is this possible? It was bought from a reputable music store.

If it was used, no telling what was done by the previous owner. CBC? Post a picture so we can see what you mean.

CBS, as in large headstock? As long as it wasn't advertised as an American Standard or American Special... I could see someone getting away with selling it as an American Strat. Seems like they should have been a little more straight forward with what exactly they were selling... perhaps they were, we don't know the whole story.

And yes, it's totally possible... here's mine. I scored a loaded Am. Std body with a little ding on it for cheap off ebay, then added the American Special/HWY 1 neck.

About a year ago I put my Clapton Strat neck and my Hwy1 body and it worked just fine.

Yeah... it's a sweet body/neck combo. I have a thing for the large headstock strats and I've always like the CFM finish... I like that new Jade Pearl finish too but enough is enough, I just don't need another strat.... (that's what I keep telling myself anyway  )
