Hello,

I'm starting a RATM tribute band and I need to install a kill switch in my Strat. I'm fond of using a Gibson style guitar with two volume pots, when I get hands on a buddies . I only have strats, so I need to know how to properly wire a 3 way Gibson style / Switchcraft toggle switch up as a kill switch.

I currently have a 2 way mini toggle switch wired as a kill switch by simply wiring the ground and hot of the output jack to kill the guitar.

Here is the switch I have that I want to install.



How would I wire this so only one position would turn the guitar on? I'm wanting the down position only to be the on position. In other words, how do I wire this switch so the center and up position kills the guitar signal?

Do I wire the two prongs, on the opposite side of the ground, to one wire, and then wire the other wire to one of the prongs? See illustration.

That looks correct to me. Unless I'm looking at it backwards, in which case just move the wire on the right to the upper terminal.

To verify, check continuity with a meter to find which terminal on the right has continuity to the left side of the switch (both left terminals wired together) in the up and mid positions, and no continuity when in the down position. You might want to connect the ground lug on the switch to ground also.
