Considering purchasing an American Standard Strat. I think I like a fingerboard that's curved. How do I locate one of those and what should I ask for? Is there a specific model I should be looking for? Do I special order one? What do I ask for?
Fingerboard radius is not be confused with the neck shape correct? For example, I shouldn't purchase a "U" shaped neck and expecting a curved fingerboard correct?
That's a lot of questions.
Thanks.

The American standard strat comes with a 22 fret 9.5" radius modern C shape neck, but it does have the options of maple or rosewood fretboard.

radius is the amount the fretboards curves, not the neck shape, that is for the back of the nuck. 7.5 radius is most curve, then 9.5, and 12 is almost flat.

Neck shape - neck profile
Curved fretboard - radius (several curved models available)
The Am Std comes with a 9.5" fretboard as standard.

Neck Shape: Modern "C" Shape
Number of Frets: 22
Fret Size: Medium Jumbo
Position Inlays: Black Dot
Fretboard Radius: 9.5"

Nice guitars - - good luck!

FWIW, the neck shapes refer to the back of the neck, and are apparent in the picture below. As the others have pointed out the fret board is the front of the neck, and all fret boards are "curved", and the amount of curve is called the radius in inches, the smaller numbers are more curved. The range of radius is commonly from 7.25" (most curve) to 18" (closer to flat) and even more. Some models even have a compound radius, starting at the nut with the smaller radius, and increasing the radius toward the guitar body.

Thanks for the responses.
If the American Standard comes with the 9.5 radius standard, how do I locate a 7.5. Would that be a special order?
Thanks again for the info.

You will have to choose a different model, one that comes with a 7.25" radius. Fender won't put on a different neck on a production model. You can order a Custom Shop model and spec what you want, or get a production model and change the neck yourself with an aftermarket, or with another Fender neck from a different model, purchased separately.

Peruse the model specs to find one to your liking.
