Very nice guitar! And playing as well. I've never played a scalloped board but hope to try one sometime, mostly out of curiousity.

I was wondering that very same thing!

Much better shape then the lousy eBay pictures hinted at, great! :)
Pulled the neck, 88' indeed:

Very little fretwear, and a fantastic feeling 50's type profile, not an Ibby Wizard neck for sure. :)
.870" at 1st fret, about an inch at the 12th. Nice fat U.

Needs a better setup, but I'll take care of that shortly.
Have a little hangup on the B and E in the nut, Nut Sauce helped, but it needs a little smoothing me thinks.
Took off the picguard and desoldered those TBX tone controls from the circuit, got to have it Yngwie correct :)

Sounds awesome, more bottom end than the Peavey, more top end "zing" and a purer, sweeter tone overall, fantastic tone.

Couldn't be happier. :) :) :)

ENJOY IT !!!!

CONGRATULATIONS !!

Now I know that YJM strats are designed for super fast playing, because thats the only speed YJM knows. And I also know that Red things go fast than all other things. So how fast can you play on a Red YJM Strat?!?!?!

Congrats on a awesome purchase and fullfilling a life long dream :)

Absolutely stunning example of the 1st Malmsteen. Those pics are perfect.

Woah!!
Really awesome looking guitar.
I'm not a yngwie fan, nor do i like the scalloped necks,
but that guitar by itself is changing my opinion on them really
fast. Awesome playing by the way.
IMHO I think Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen, etc have extremely hard
Styles to play, yet you play them easily.
I'm totally impressed

Thank you for the kind words.

This eBay purchase was kind of a gamble, the eBay pictures were crappy and the description fairly short and no details. Luckily it turned out to be better than I had hoped for. A few dings and a little bucklerash on the backside, but that's expected for a guitar from 1988.
And for the first time I can keep the guitar pretty much as it left the factory, except I disabled the TBX tone controls as Yngwie did. That's also key to make those HS-3's sound good, without tone controls they become much more open and "stratty".

Also super happy with the fat 50's neck profile, feels really good!

Oh, I might try a set the of bent steel saddles instead of those block ones eventually, that's the only mod I can think of for now.
Very happy with how it sounds already though. :)

Okay, it's almost impossible to find backing tracks online, all Yngwie stuff seem to be horrible midi tracks in regular tuning.
But I finally found something useful, a guy who had looped the intro to Crystal Ball, so at least I could use that for a short clip.
