I recently purchased a MIM Strat Blacktop with the floyd rose. When i got it it was tuned to Eflat, i tried tuning to standard tuning, and I am having a hard time keeping it tuned to standard. Any hints or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
Rick

Have you done a full setup since going to Standard tuning? The tremolo also needs to be adjusted in the back to allow for proper return when you release the bar.

Don't do it unless you are very well rested, have lots of time, and zero distractions.

Clean and lubricate the trem posts, edges, and saddles lightly but thoroughly with Nut Sauce.

Clean the nut and string locks.

Stretch the strings out real good.

If necessary, make small adjustments to the trem claw to see how it effects the angle when tuning it to pitch.

Some trems like the trem claw straight, others angled with the low end on the wound strings.

Two springs for light and super lights, 3 springs for mediums, 4 or 5 for heavies. I like um straight with two strings on the outer holes, one in the middle with 3, or 2 together with the middle hole empty if using 4.

Tune the strings starting with the E string until it's stable and then move to the next string until it's stable. Return to the E string after tuning the next string to balance each successive string with the first.

When re-tuning, look for the flat strings first, tune them to pitch, then tune the sharp strings down if they remain sharp after tuning a flat string up.

Balance the strings out by focusing on the wound strings, then the unwound strings, then visa versa until it settles in.

Pull up and down hard on the trem and then flutter the trem looking for strings that bind and go sharp or keep stretching and go flat. If a string keeps going flat and it's stretched, replace that string. If strings are binding, find out where and fix that if possible.

Before tightening down the string locks at the nut, check the neck relief and adjust if necessary.

Lock the strings down. Re-tune if necessary, but work the whammy a bunch and let it bake (settle) for a bit before re-tuning.

Make sure everything is nice n' snug n' tight.

Get the Floyd Rose intonation tool and intonate the saddles.

If there's an intonation issue at the last fret, check the angle of the neck. You should be able to get perfect pitch at the 1st and 12th fret and near perfect, if not perfect at the last fret. If the last fret comes up sharp on one side of the neck, angle that side of the neck down to balance the last fret with the nut.

It may take a day, a few days, a week, ...a month for the thing to fully settle depending upon the quality of the build and parts.

Slightly high action and flatish neck relief yields the best tone and least amount of string contact during pulls for my touch.

If you're not getting perfect tuning after it's done right and settled in, put a touch of nut sauce on the spring catch and loop and trem claw.

If all of that don't work, bring it to a shop.

If they can't get it working...somethings worn or poorly manufactured.

The strings should come back to perfect pitch after obscene use of the trem, always, until the strings are dead.

I've got a Brawley guitar that comes out of the gig bag in tune time after time unless there is a radical temperature change or the fine tuners get bumped hard.

And, last but not least, ...tell my roommate to quit smoking cigarettes, she needs to quit -- she's starting to hack her lungs up.

You're welcome! 8)
