I noticed his headstock appears to say CLARKE at the top. Any info on that?

Pictures, please.
Is it hand written or machine printed?

From the TV show about this guitar, I believe they said that Clarke was the store that either sold or rented instruments. Clarke was also observed on the guitar's case.

Which of Dylan's Strats are we talking about? The Strat he used at Newport had a plain guard, as does the History Detectives' guitar which they purport to be the Newport Strat.

Are you thinking that Clark is not a guitar brand,
but a equipment rental retailer and put Clark on the guitar?

It used to be very common for stores to stick a label on guitars and amps with the store's name (usually address and phone number too). That pretty much died out in the '70s when buyers started complaining about it.

But the Strat Ras1500 is talking about doesn't have a pearloid pickguard like the guitar in the thread title.

(Lovesick may have mis-heard the word "celluloid" -- they did mention that the purported Newport Strat had a vintage-correct celluloid pickguard like all '64 Strats.)

Interesting form of advertising, especially if the guitar makes it
to the cover of the Rolling Stone or on an album cover
or a huge mass produced poster
