Thank you for the apology!!! And i do understand marketing, i do understand the need for a clapton or an srv or a avrail lavine model, but that doesnt mean that i want one, and feel that some players dont merrit and sig model based on there lack of playing ability. Does mean that i cant see the merrit in sellin one

No problem. And so obviously you understand my point: that asking "are there too many" isn't a meaningful question. Fender offers models to sell, not to honor somebody or to satisfy the "feelings" of any one player.

Yeah I guess it's like asking are there too many pretty women? It depends on what you want.

I want cheap women. 8)

 For me they cost to much in comparison with a standard model.

Some of them like the Eric Clapton Strat are basically the same as a Standard Strat and aren't worth the extra few hundred dollars, but some like the Malmsteen strat with the scalloped neck are. I do feel that today it is just like you or me could go into the Fender center and create our own signature guitar, but most of them are made for good reason, but in the end, it's only so the artists and company can have that extra bit of dosh in their greedy pockets!

I can understand signature models from players like Les Paul, Jeff Beck, SRV, Buddy Guy, B.B. King etc. Here are a few signature models we could do without- Avril Lavigne, Joe Strummer, DeLonge, Sting etc. Who ever looked up to those folks as guitar heroes?? I was really glad to see Gibson put out an Alex Lifeson ES-335 signature model. He is one of my favorite guitarists, and it is nice to see him get his props.

i guess it would make more sense in our eyes that they make sigs for people with unique tones as a way for us to explore further...like stevie ray or eric johnson and clapton...but everyone looks up to someone else, i personally would never buy a malmsteen cause he's not my guy, but there are people on here that love him.... but everyone has their own thing so as long as there is someone to be idolized it makes sense to market it in my eyes, give the people what they want...
