The 2011 has the Alcino V pickups and the 2012 has the Fat 50's correct?

can someone tell me how these pickups differ in sound?

And are there any differneces between the 2 models in the neck, body, or anywhere else?

Sorry I have not played a 2012 yet so I can't compare the pickups, but I can tell you that the pickups and adding the jade color were the only change for 2012.

I just bought a 2011 Fender American Standared Strat
that I highly modified last month. Before modificaion,
it had all the great features I wanted.

Are you sure ALL the new 2012s come with FAT 50's pickups?
Or just some models? Toppscore 8)

All.

Thanks, GreenStrat! How about 2011s?
Are they all one or more flavors for my 2011 American Standard Stratocaster?

I purchased the following 2011 American Standard Stratocaster . . . .

Image

Turned this monster into a Jimi Hendrix clone

Image

Fantastic plan that came to fruition

Image

Very Happy with this guitar's end result

FENDER Locking Tuners = How Nice :D

The seller removed the original Fender Pickups and the original SSS pickguard.

Then he added DeMarzio Injectors into the original SSS pickguard.

Then he customized with an HH pickguard and added:
an ACTIVE EMG81tw (bridge) and an ACTIVE EMG89r (neck)
which are both powered by a 9-volt battery under the pickguard.

Since it's a LEFT-HANDED Fender Stratocaster that I intentionally purchased
to flip into a Jimi Hendrix, I removed the EMG's and returned the
original SSS pickguard, but added three (3):
Guitar Fetish Jimi Hendrix Reverse Stagger Alnico Premium Pickup Set
This guitar is a blast.
We also flipped the nut and filed the string slots for better string grip.
We added the Schaller strap buttons and installed one on the smaller horn.
Of course had the intonation and setup just done perfectly.

But, I am wondering about those 2011 pickups. Alnico 5's or Fat 50's?
What do you think?

Toppscore - nice job on converting that to a Hendrix for right-handed players.

The original pickups on that one would be the Alnico Vs; the Fat 50s didn't come on American Standards until the 2012 update.

Also based on the serial number the guitar should date to early 2010 -Fender only used those serial numbers that start with a "10" for about 3 months. Of course being a lefty those numbers ran a bit later than they did for right-handed guitars (as in Fender made a batch of lefty necks but didn't necessarily use them as quickly as they do right-handed necks). Did you check the dates to see if it was a 2011?

John. After just recently getting this guitar back, I had not noticed the serial number
until taking pictures last night. I was going to ask about that, but forgot.

Thanks for bringing that up. How in the world do you know so much . . . .
and, I am thankful that you do.

Following is the EBay Auction Info:
Honestly, I am not worried about it being a year older.
I'll have to adjust my guitar insurance replacement premiums.
And, I ended up with three full sets of pickups, 2-Left Handed pickguards & extras.
Plus the Left Handed Guitar Case

2011 LEFT HANDED FENDER AMERICAN STANDARD Stratocaster Electric Guitar with Extras

Selling a 2011 Fender Amer. Std. (Left handed) Stratocaster. I had a EMG81tw (bridge) and a EMG89r (neck) installed into it (these ran me $240). I also add Fender locking tuners. It comes with the hard shell case (w/key), all the original hardware, pick ups, literature, strap and a set of extra saddles from graphtec. It also comes with the original pickguard loaded with a set of Dimarzio Injector pick ups (these ran me about $180). I purchased this new and have taken good care of it so it is in very clean condition.

Since there's no difference between a 2010 and a 2011 it really isn't an issue. The original buyer probably just bought it in 2011 so he (or she) called it a "2011 Strat" in their eBay ad.

Of course since Fender builds relatively few left-handed guitars compared to right-handed guitars as I mentioned it could be possible that Fender did up a batch of 500 left-handed necks in early 2010 that weren't fully used until later.

This would be a good one to send over to Fender's Consumer Relations to see what date they have on it.

Thanks, John C. Sometimes I think that way as well.
I just purchased a 1964 Fender Twin Reverb and I keep thinking it's a 2012

My 2011 American Standard came with Tex-Mex single coils and a Diamondback Humbucker. I have Fat 50's on my Highway 1 in a SSS configuration. It is wired just like the 2012 American Standards. The 2 guitars sound similar regarding the Single Coils, but I love the Fat 50's a bit better. The take distortion a lot better and sound a bit ticker. More bass than the Tex-Mex, especially in the neck.

Does anybody like Fender's stock "Tex-Mex" pickup sets?
Is EVERYBODY changing them out? What does anyone think?

These pickups are favored by SRV's brother Jimmie. They came stock into his namesake signature guitar!

Tex Mex Strat pickups sound like a fiery bowl of Texas picante. These overwound, vintage style Strat pickups offer increased output, sparkling highs, and attention grabbing warm tone while retaining your favorite vintage Strat characteristics. Designed for and standard equipment on the Jimmie Vaughan Signature Strat. Constructed with Alnico V magnets and polysol magnet wire. Features a reverse wound/reverse polarity middle pickup for hum canceling in positions 2 & 4.

There's also a Tex-Mex humbucking pickup specially designed to emulate the classic humbucker tone of the late '50s, but with some updates. This humbucker is constructed with Alnico V magnets and polysol magnet wire to increase string response and output.

Fender designed this pickup to accommodate American Standard and Vintage string spacing at the bridge position for the best possible humbucking tone from your Strat.

Includes 4-conductor wiring for a greater variety of switching possibilities. Standard equipment material on MIM Deluxe "Fat" Strat and "Fat" Strat Floyd Rose guitars.

Not sure if this product is discontinued or not.

I like the Tex-Mex pickups, which is why they are still in my American Standard.

Yes, you are correct. I've not yet tried a 2012, so I can't give a comparison.

My 2009 American standard has the stock Alnico V American strat pick ups.
