Hi
I've been playing bass and guitar for 3 years but I've only ever played on acoustic guitars.
Now I'm thinking of buying a stratocaster guitar and I want your recommendations, pros and cons, and overall comments.
Thanks!

Best advice I can give you is to play a bunch of them. I'm a big fan of the new Amercan Std.

It all really depends on your needs and taste in music .

Depending on your style, Stratocasters are IMO are the most versatile guitar around.

Try one of the recent Classic Vibe Squier Strats -- they're a lot of guitar for the money (not too pricey though). You can find them used on Ebay for pretty reasonable $$$ and they're available in a variety of classic finishes with both maple and rosewood fretboards.

Best of luck, HTH

Don't overlook the used strats in the stores. Some can be had at reasonable prices but by all means go with the above advice. It's all good.

It's difficult to give advice with this little info.
What music genre?

I've been playing for 5 years now, and for me, Stratocasters are the most versatile and visually appealing guitars out there, bar none.

I have an HSS one and an SSS one, and I can get ANY sound out of them. I can get as twangy or as funky or as bluesy or as hardcore as I want.

They feel just perfect to me. Not clunky at ALL, they are very sleek and fitting.

Do it dude!

You do realize that you only have to try Strat once and you will be hooked?

The only decision that remains is, "Which one?"

My advice (take it for what it's worth) would be to go to some stores and play as many as you can. One is sure to speak to you and tell you to take it home with you.

I would not even think about buying a guitar on ebay. For me, a guitar is both about sound and feel, and and you can get neither on ebay.

Ditto. I have two (1991 MIJ and 2009 Am Std) and love them.

Thanks!

I played my first Stratocaster in 1958. The guitar came into the band after my friend [of 50+ years now] returned starry eyed from seeing Buddy Holly and The Crickets at what we used to call 'a rock and roll show'. When he acquired his Fender Jaguar in 1962, I acquire the Stratocaster. The story of the fate of that '58 guitar, which I gigged with nearly 10 years, has been told in these pages many times...so I won't waste time with it, but there's been nothing but Strats for me since. It was 'right' the day I first played it. It was why Leo, Freddy, and George conceived it and it also must be why you're asking, because you're not asking about any other maker. So just go out and play a few and see what suits your style.
