Hey, newbie to this forum.
I seem to have broken the tremolo arm on my Strat plus. The thread is stuck in the block, last time this happened i ordered a whole new tremolo system. This time i dont have much money and would like to know of any good replacements of a Tremolo Block to use with the rest of my bridge with off-set saddles.
Cheers

Hi Dimce89,

A Callaham block and arm will cost about $78 plus shipping. The block for the Plus appears to be the same block as an Am Std. Probably one of the best blocks that you can get, and will eliminate any more broken arms due to the unique design of their block and arm.

Callaham does make great blocks. Have one myself.

Have you checked out your local GC to see if they have a Fender replacement in stock?

Seeing that you've done this before, what are you doing to cause this to happen? Heavy duty dive-bombing???

I used to keep 5 springs in the trem cavity with a high spring tension, thats what caused it to happen this time. Its hard finding parts down here in Melbourne, and a pain to order from Callaham, tried 2-3 times already.

Do you know anybody that works in a machine shop, or anything like that? My frienddid the same thing to his strat. I just took his trem block to my job, put it on a drill press, drilles a hole in the broken arm, and used an "easy out". You may be able to get it out if using a left handed center drill also.

Considering that this has happened before, and happens to many others, the original design has the flaw and is prone to breakage with use. Get a Callaham and it won't happen again. Removing the broken piece, or replacing with the same design and it will likely happen again.

Replacement blocks can be a nice thing, but if the arm is the only issue here, then it is a waste of money.

You can probably extract it yourself. If you remove the block from the plate, there often is enough arm sticking up that you can grab it with a pair of pliers. Other times you can get at it with a screw extractor or an easy-out. Worst case scenario you can drill out the center of the broken arm piece and let it collapse upon itself. Honestly, most times I've dealt with this, it broke off at the top of the plate and once separating the plate and block, I can do it with pliers.
