I just received my new 57 hotrod strat (yesterday), having never played one I took the chance and ordered it anyway. I do own an American Vintage 57, so I was thinking there shoudln't be too much of a difference.
There are several differences, most noticably the pup's and the neck finish and radius. The scn pups are just amazing and I wasn't sure I'd like the DiMarzio tone zone bridge pu, but I was surprised at how nice it sounded. The "soft v" neck (9.5 radius) is a really good fit for me. The quality and workmanship are simply amazing, the guitar is puuuuuurrrrrfect!! I couldn't be happier with my new addition. IMO, It definetly is well worth the $$$$. And if you're thinking about getting one, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks man. 8)

The tone zone is stock on the 57 hotrod, great sound from that pu. I was surprised the tone was as nice as it is. Real nice blues sound.

That's the neck they should have put on the new American Standard and I have a sneaking suspicion that they lifted it from the Tribute 'Blackie'.

I must agree, that's a fine looking beast! The vintage hotrod is a nice machine and plays great. Simply depending on what you play, it's good for metal and blues because of the DiMarzio pickup at the bottom, however I still love the Vintage 57 Strat, especially the Daphne Blue model.

I prefer my vintage 57 (my fave) with the 3 position switch, it gives me that straight up tone and vibe that I like. And when I want to get a different tone I switch over to the hot rod, 5 position switch, the tone zone p/u has a really nice tone to it, as do the scn's. 8)

Can you describe what that Tone Zone is like?
Is it humbucking? High output?

Inquiring minds ...

The tone zone to me has a "mild" humbucking sound to it. It is very smooth - not harsh. Well, I hope this helps, not sure how else to describe it. 8)

I have the Tone Zone in most of my Ibanez guitar nic which is all humbucker....does the single coil Tone Zone have a sort of open wah sound when you do those high bends like its humbucker counterparts?

Yes, open wah sound (good way to describe it) and it has alot of sustain as well. I must say a very unique tone to it, I've never owned any other guitar that had this type of p/u and I'm really satisfied with the setup. It even sounds good when I play country tunes. 8)
