I love the Blacktop series, the Cobain Mustang, the 72 Deluxe Telecaster reissue, and plenty of other guitars !

But which Fender is the most metal appropriate?

I'm talking new metal, classic metal, rock.

(Someone's for sure gonna mention the Jim Root Sig. guitars)

I'd say any type of solid body guitar with a humbucker in the bridge would be suitable for high gain.

Is Fender still making those Showmasters? I guess I could just check... or as someone suggested a Jackson or Charvel, they're pretty Fendery.

Yeah, I guess anything with some modern humbuckers would get you there...

There's a lot of suitable Fenders on the market.

If you ask me, every Fender with Humbucker(s) and Floyd Rose system is just fine for Hardrock/Metal.
Even hard tails with humbuckers are just fine, depending on your preferred technique and if you wanna do dive bombs/upbends or not.

To some extend you might even use single coil equipped strats. I've played some hardrock and metal stuff on my strat with Lace Sensors and mid boost circuit and it did the job as far as having fun was concerned.
I admit that you get enough output and gain but of course NOT the fat bottom end of humbuckers. I'd say it's ok for melodic metal if you tweek your amp a little (medium treble, zero mids, more bass) and reduce tone on the guitar but it won't do the job when playing death metal.

HINT: check out the new polyphonic Octaver by Boss (OC-3). It octaves CHORDS!!!
That sounds incredible in polyphonic mode, even with single coils!!

For me personally, a heavy metal axe MUST HAVE humbuckers and Floyd Rose and there's Fender models out there givin' you just that!

As far as production models go: to me it kinda looks strange to see Teles and Mustangs in the metal section but that's just me!
Strats look pretty much at home in this musical genre (to me, IMHO) if they have the proper look and color.
I wouldn't want to see a Pink Paisley with humbuckers in a metal band.

I'd say the P-bass and Jazz bass are the most suited. As guitars go, probably the telecaster '72 deluxe (not the thinline).

I wouldn't buy a fender for metal, i'd get an Ibanez or a Charvel or Jackson or even a Gibson if you're not bothered about tremolo bar. You can play metal on a fender but IMO unless it's modified with humbuckers in the bridge etc. it won't have a heavy enough sound.

Find yourself a double fat strat... Basically find a Strat, Tele, or whatever is your taste and add some humbuckers to it. Single coils will force you to find some sort of gain booster to keep up with humbuckers...

I know this is a Fender site and I do love them, but for metal, give ESP a try. You get a lot for the money and they have some very fast necks without being too flat like an Ibanez.

If you want to keep it Fender manufactured...try the Jackson / Charvel and now even the EVH Wolfgang family of guitars.

If it's a strat you want, then anything with a humbucker will do the job.

I just gave away a Crate amp that would help out as well . . .

Perhaps the Dave Murray Strat?

I absolutely love stratocasters and tele's but mustangs, jaguars are cool too.

Im probably just gonna grab any Fender guitar and swap pups. I especially have my eye on the 50's Road Worn Stratocaster and putting Seymour Duncan YJM Fury (Yngwie J. Malmsteen sig.) single coil sized humbuckers.

A plus on these pups is that they're four conductor as well. This means i can as well add the Seymour Duncan Blackouts modular preamp for more metal tone, but most likely will not be doing that.
