I recently bought an American Special strat, and am in Love with the guitar, I have been primarily a blues bassist for many years, and only picked up the guitar 6 years ago. I originally started playing guitar with a rock/metal vibe to it, but have started leaning towards blues so I felt this guitar fitting.

My quiestion is possibly the stupidest one you can imagine. I just changed the strings on the guitar and now the tremlo is wound up extremely tight and I cannot seem to loosen the guitar without detuning the guitar, once I loosen them and retune the guitar the tremlo becomes bent up again. I can't seem to find a youtube video that solves this problem so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

This is my first fender guitar/first guitar with a tremlo so I have never had to experience this problem before.

Did you change the gauge of your strings? That might do it.

something like that would make perfect sense, not sure why I didn't think about it. I will give it a try. Thank you

This happened to me once too, I went from the standard 9's on my stratocaster to 10's and the bridge went up, so I change it to the 8's and tightened the springs on it a little bit. (Or you could just loosen the springs if on a higher gauge.)

Just the opposite, tighten the trem claw screws when changing to higher gauge strings, and loosen the trem claw screws when changing to lower gauge strings. It may take a few tries, adjust trem claw screws, retune, check bridge height, repeat if necessary. In the OPs case, the trem claw screws need to be tightened.
