Um - no, that is absolutely not correct (except for an American Standard neck costing more than an American Special neck). Please take some time to look at this link - go down almost to the bottom and read about how Fender changed their serial number system in 2010:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... uct-dating

If you don't want to read the page, here is the short hand:

Fender USA serial numbers starting in mid-1976 used a system where the year was approximated by a letter and a number. Being as this was 1976 Fender used numbers that started with an "S6" followed by 5 digits - the "S" for "Seventies" and the "6" making it "1976". Fender kept that system, using "E" for "Eighties", followed by "N" for "Nineties", then finally "Z" for "Zeros" (meaning the 2000s). The "Z" prefix necks were used on USA guitars in the 2000s - including Highway 1s when they came out. They also would use "extra" letters to denote other series, like an "S" for Artist Signatures (so a 1988 Eric Clapton Strat would have a serial number that started with "SE8", and a 1997 Clapton would start with "SN7", and a 2005 Clapton would start with an "SZ5"), and "D" for American Deluxes (starting in the late 1990s).

In 2010 Fender changed to a new system; first they used just a "10" for say January through March 2010, the after March 2010 they started using a "US10" prefix. The "US10"s were used on American Standards, American Specials, Highway 1s, American Deluxes, and USA-built Artist Signatures (except for Eric Johnson Strats). Fender stopped using the "S" and the "D" extra letters. Then they moved to "US11" prefixes for 2011, "US12" for this year, etc.

I stand corrected. But, American special necks are a lot cheaper than American Standard.
You got that? Good. :P

As I said before, I've dealt with fender cunsomer relations,
and in two weeks, a neck was replaced for a cp 60s I had.

Now Rob will point you in the right direction.

Very true - I even said so in my post (now bolded for emphesis). :

It's all good - frankly until earlier this year Fender hadn't caught their page up to the new serial number style so it was hard to track everything down.

Thanks for your replies guys and thank you Rob. I've given Rob all the relevant information including the name of the dealer. Rob has proven that Fender really stands behind their products and I am thankful for that. All the best to everyone and cheers!

Also, they need to update the schematics page. I could really use the 52 Hot Rod Telecaster wiring Schematic. I guess in due time. Btw, excellent rundown of the serials, great info there.
