Last year I bought a brand new Fender American Standard Stratocaster and it had a twisted neck. It was the only oly white rosewood strat I could find and I wanted exactly that. I brought it home, set it up and realized that the neck was twisted. I complained to Fender, they did nothing, I complained to the store they offered to buy me a new genuine replacement Fender neck. I took a few pictures of my old neck so that they could see the serial number, and I had to give them my old neck because Fender wanted it destroyed for some reason. Anyhow, I had too wait 4-5 months for the new neck to arrive and when it did it was completely wrong! It was a neck for a pre 2007 model Am Standard, but my Strat is post 2008 model. I am now left with a guitar that has a wrong neck, and because I had to wait for it for so long I can't even return the guitar anymore. I am so extremely dissapointed and having barely been able to afford it I have now lost all will to play the guitar!

They are the same looking necks, aren´t they?
The thing that bothers you is the serial number being 2-3 years older?
Are the frets different or why is it "completely wrong" ?
Waiting 4-5 months for a new neck is a no go.
Just want to understand.

Cheers,
Robin

Hey Robin, thanks for replying. The serial number is actually different from the original neck and it begins with US11, but I don't have any problems with that, the problem is that one of the main reasons I got the post 2008 Am Std Strat is because I loved the neck which had medium jumbo frets, hand rolled edges, and glossy headstock. This neck does not have hand rolled edges, and it has a matte headstock. The first affects the comfort, and the second I think will hurt the resale value of the guitar. When I bought my guitar I could have bought a 2007 version for a much lower price but I paid a premium for a post 2008 because I liked the feel of the neck and now I ended up paying more for a guitar that has a 2007 neck, an absolute lose lose situation.
Cheers,
Vlasta

I bought from someone who is an authorized Fender dealer, and they bought the neck for me because Fender did not want to replace it themselves. The people from the dealership were great but Fender just didn't seem to care to make things right, which is dissapointing since I've been a long time Fender player. I know it means it was made in 2011.
Cheers,
Vlasta

I'm confused, is it a 2007 or 2011 neck?

Did they change the specs between 2008 and 2011?

I am also having trouble following,
so you purchased a 2008 strat in 2011 with a twisted neck and the dealer got you a 2011 replacement neck (based on serial) and told you it was a 2007? i am very confused.

what date did you actually make the purchase and what are the first 4 of the current serial number and old serial number?

It's quite simple. It is a genuine Fender replacement neck. When you damage the neck on your Strat you can pay Fender to build you a replacement which would be exactly the same. So, since mine was twisted right outside the box, the dealer ordered a replacement which was then built in 2011, but it was for pre 2008 Am Std models. In 2008 Fender introduced some changes to their American Standard line up and the neck specs have been exactly the same from 2008 until today.

oops, forgot to type,
so fender sent you a neck that is 2007 spec when it should be 2008-2011 spec?

it is possible the original guitar had a 2007 serial number and fender based it off of that?
what was the first 4 of the original?

I bought the guitar brand new in December 2010, it was built in 2008, but it was not second hand. I complained to Fender about the neck an waited for their response a couple of months, and I finally got contacted by the dealership where I bought the guitar and they offered to buy the replacement themselves. The replacement finally arrived a week ago and they got it all mixed up. The thing is, all I wanted was a replacement neck which would be exactly the same as my old neck just not twisted. I gave them my old neck and they knew the serial number so I figured there would be no problems but what I got from them was a neck built to the specifications of a 2007 Strat not a 2008 strat. My friend has a 2007 Strat and his neck looks exactly the same as my new replacement neck. But my old neck was different, it had hand rolled edges and glossy headstock and it was fatter.

The neck should have been under warrenty. I think your dealer is doing something funny. Fender does not sell necks.

The dealer had to pay 140 something euros to Fender for a replacement neck, I've seen the mail that Fender sent to the dealer. A week ago a box with the neck arrived. It had the certificate of authenticity, it had a box with Fender logo and underneath it it said ˝Fender genuine replacement parts˝. There was a shipping seal and it proved that it was sent from USA. It is quite a large dealership so they would not tarnish their reputation with little things. Trust me, they aren't doing anything funny, they did all they could to make things right.
