anyone has or had one these amps? what kind of output can you expect? I have a fender deluxe reverb that has plenty of power and just wondering what to expect? I am hoping to buy one of these vintage amps but I can not find any that I can drive to and just play before i buy...

I have never owned a Tremolux but I played them quite often "back in the day" when the blackface AB763 versions were still cataloged as regular production items. The blonde 6G9 sounds quite similar to the 6G7 Bandmaster, with a skosh less power (35 watts) and a slightly brighter sound (the Tremolux featured a pair of 10K5 Oxfords, the Bandmaster used two Oxford 12M6's). The brownfaces all employed the bias-modulation tremolo circuit, which sounds richer and more detailed than the more-common opto-isolator system used in most blackface amps. The Tremolux (any version) was really a nice package that was under-appreciated when they were first introduced. Low production numbers account for their scarcity and hence, their premium price among collectors.

As a matter of fact, I was -- my '66 Strat. No reverb but I'm certain that a 6G15 outboard tank will do nothing but improve an already-excellent amp. The Tremolux develops a maximum of 35 watts, more than ample for most clubs and saloons these days.

nice job jay. you still have your 66? maple or rosewood? there is a 62 amp for sale, but almost 4K for the setup! If I was professional it would be a sweet setup for sound, tone..looks..I have a 73 deluxe reverb amp that does just fine..match with my 62 rosewood strat, owned since 1972, but thinking real hard to buy the 62 amp..if I could play it before i bought it, then for sure I would have to have it, but the buy without playing is nerve wracking..

Now why would I need that?

I already have several Deluxe Reverbs......

Image

On the right a '68 with a JBL D120F and on the left a '78 that I backdated to '68 cosmetics and installed into a home-made enclosure containing a 15-inch JBL D130F. I also have second identical conversion that's built around a DRRI chassis with the cab in blonde/wheatstraw garb.
