What would I be getting into to complete this and has anyone here had one?

Thanks

Hi Brian, welcome to the Forum.

Just recently Forum user Xhefri posted a thread about aluminum bodied Strats. He knows more about them than most people so hopefully he'll look in here and talk to you. Meantime, you could take a glance at his thread:

https://www.fender.com/community/forums ... =6&t=72359

Also, the more you can tell us the better we can help. Is this just a body or does it come with parts? Is it painted or naked metal? Is it a Fender body or some other maker? What's the price? Is there a link you can share so we can see for ourselves, or photos you can post?

Cheers - C

Ah, thanks for the link, Brian.

Well, Jeff/Xhefri will know better than me, but to my eye I think that might indeed be one of the same bodies that Fender had made for them and which you see on the thread I linked to. Take a look at the beginning of the second page of the thread.

Personally, I think it looks just fantastic, especially with the matching pickguard and back cover. I don't know enough to comment on the price, but I'd jump on that in a second if I weren't an ocean away. What a catch!

Good luck - C

Does anyone know what the Aluminum body looks like inside?
Are these "authorized" ?
Why does Fender not sell these?
How did these get out?
Did someone rescue them from the recycle yard?
What do they play like?
Sound like?

Cool items., I could drive there and see them,
Apparently he has more than one.

Fender has made limited run guitars from their custom shop with similar bodies. The Mustang strat and Harley Davidson strat being 2 examples that I've seen pictures of before.

As to whether this is one of those bodies and how to find out I have no idea. I'm sure someone on here could get you some info that helps though

Hi again Brian: did you follow the link I gave you? Most of the answers to your questions are contained on that thread.

Anyway. Are you going to buy?

Cheers - C

Not today $650$ is out of my curiosity budget.
I am really curious as to how it was constructed inside.
Thicknesses, structural reinforcement, welding seams ?
I am making a billet alum type strato

Well, what Xhefri said on the other thread is that they were cast in front and back halves and then joined together. He said the seams were done really well and hard to see.

I read this thread with interest and saw Mr. C gave the link to the thread where I mentioned the number in the run, types and colors as well as showed a few Picts of the naked bodies. ( can I say that?) so I guess no reason to reinvent the Strat! I can say that I paid around $2500 for a mint NOS aluminum Strat with all the paperwork and such. This one seems really overpriced.

Don't know if it's just me but I'm getting "page not found" from that link. Maybe something to do with your Picassa privacy settings?

If you use the "Img" tags on this Forum you can link from your Picassa album to a post here and we can all see them. We're getting curious...!
