Hi,

I recently fitted a set of N3 pickups from a 2011 deluxe to my strat. I got them as a set complete with the scratchplate and all the electrics. I have looked for the diagram to find out which pickups are active when the S1 switch is down and have found a couple of diagrams that contradict each other.

Does anyone have a definitive guide to a set of 2011 S1 pickups, or any method of telling whether a pick up is live. I am sure I once saw someone tap the magnets with a metal object to decide whether the pickup was one or not.

To my knowledge, the type of pickup used is irrelevant, the S1 switch is wired the same:

Yes, turn the volume down and tap lightly on a pole from each pickup with a small screwdriver.

Howdy!

Fender changed the pickup combos in 2011 for the following:

S-1 Switch Off

Standard 5 way Stratocaster switching

S-1 Switch On:

Pos - 1. Bridge/Mid/Neck (in series)
Pos - 2. Bridge/Mid (in series)
Pos - 3. Mid/Neck (in series)
Pos - 4. Bridge/Neck Out-Of-Phase/In Series w/ Tone Cap
Pos - 5. Bridge/Mid In Series/Out-Of-Phase/In Parallel with Neck Pickup

The full spec for the Dlx 2011 model is listed here...

Hope this helps

Andy

I have a 2011 Am Dlx and Andybighair has got it right.

I've yet to find a use for all the tones, but my favorites are the standard switching options and the 5 position with the S1 engaged (especially when there is a fair amount of overdrive on it - gives a great nasally lead tone but sounds horrible with a clean tone).
