I’ve had an American Deluxe Stratocaster for over a year and never used the tremolo arm until recently. I screwed it in and the first thing I noticed was as I turned it to screw it in it hit my control knobs, (volume, selector switch, etc). I’ve read about the spring under the arm which I don’t have but does that make such a huge difference that so much clearance is lost?

Where can we get another spring?

a strat arm will normally hit the pup switch, especially if it is in the middle position. but it shouldn't hit the knobs. you might've pushed it in too far. but then again, I dislike the pop in ones, so maybe somebody else that has experience with them could tell you for sure.

you can get the springs pretty much anywhere that sells fender. i think if you get one online, its like 70 cents for one. if you go to a shop, they might just give you one if you ask nice.

Actually, my guitar is an American Deluxe with S1 and the arm is "threaded". It doesn't pop in. It threads in.

That may be your problem, you've got the wrong arm. The American Deluxes (at least since 2004 that I know of) have always had the pop-in arm.

I had the same issue. I put my trem bar in my workbench vise (make sure you put a piece of wood on each side of the trem arm so that you don't mess up the threads), tightened the vice, and bent the arm just a little so that it would balance out and not hit the controls. I play with my bridge flush with the body of my strat, so that's probably why I had to modify it a bit. It's an easy fix.

Make shure its a fender brand tremolo arm I had the same problem so I switched to a fender Brand. Or you screwed it in to tight.

Hello GHawk01,

You can put a threaded bar in an American deluxe
but they didn't come that way. I now use a push in bar
which is like a pop in with no detent it works pretty
neat. I Looked at dozens till I found this one at a guitar
show in Jersey.

And yes, bent it as you need it to be.

Cheers.
