American Standard vs Deluxe

now that I have my Strat, I'm beginning to gas for a real metal guitar now.

Sure, I can use the Am Dlx for metal and it will do a great job of it, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a Dave Murray strat or the Adrian Smith Jackson.

...or maybe a combination of the 2 by getting a USA strat of some sort (preferable something with locking tuners or a Floyd Rose) and then swapping the pickups and other hardware. I'd just have to decide if I wanted the Floyd or a more traditional bridge and whether to go with Murray's HSH or Smith's HSS.

After playing a Standard HSS and the Deluxe HSS - I couldn't pass up the compound radius neck. I loved the S1 - it just gives so much more option without the need for a pedal, and I actually liked the sound of the Noiseless pickups. Aside from some of the more expensive USA made Artist series production guitars, the Am Dlx is probably the closest thing to a custom shop guitar without actually getting a custom shop guitar. Main difference being that the custom shop gets first pick of all the wood at the factory and therefore has the best of the best.The standard is still a good guitar and if you are after a more traditional look, feel and sound it is the one to go with. But the Am Dlx IMHO has better hardware and slightly better build quality. The main difference though is that the Am Dlx is more of a modern strat.

Of the two, when your were comparing with the best "deals"
how much more is the Deluxe over the best Standard you were considering???

Typical EBay Dealer/Reseller Fender American Deluxe HSS is $1600
Typical EBay Dealer/Reseller Fender American SELECT HSS is $2150

Pretty big delta to consider before stepping up to the Custom Shop/Artist Class.

yeah, I forgot about the American Select Series.

when it comes to the artist models don't forget they have 2 versions, the Custom shop version and the production line version. When I was referin to Artist series it was the pricier prodution models like the Dave Murray strat or the Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, or Clapton models which I assume are either made in USA or Japan.

Yes indeed. I've been hearing great things about
the American "Select" series of Fender guitars.
