Any assistance is appreciated. I have a 1987 Strat I bought used from a kid in 1991. I have played it as my main guitar since then and I am looking for info about it's value.
A little info: Like I said, my main guitar all these years, so the road wear is obvious. I replaced the stock pickups with Fender Tex-Mex pickups. The neck was sanded down on the back to remove the gloss and strap locks were installed. The finish is also faded to a yellowish color instead of white (my guess is bar smoke). So, this guitar is not by any means a collectors item.
The neck shows H. Gastelum and the date 12/18/87.
Any idea what this guitar would be worth? Or is it even worth selling?
Thanks! Pictures HERE

Maybe get at new neck?
Get a neck you can treat differently
instead to the skin-conditioner you used on your current 1987.

When you sell, you can included both the before and after.
Give the grandkids a choice, you know, chocolate or vanilla

Just found this thread / forum...

My main guitar has always been my '87 Stratocaster and I can honestly say have never played a nicer Strat. Everyone else that has played it says likewise. I am always amazed that they're not more sought after. I have actually just picked another one off ebay today.

I read somewhere that the '87 Strats were the first "Post CBS" guitars after no production since (poorer?) early 80's ones (bar the sought after 'Dan Smith' Strats). And seeing that Fender needed improve things saleswise they really made the new "American Standard" strat something worthwhile.

Compared to newer Strats, In my opinion late eighties ones are far superior. To me, the newer "non gloss" necks just don't feel right to me (so I personally wouldn't have sanded it down - but each to their own). The only strat i have played that I feel come close have been custom shop ones.

I think the late 80's Strats will be quite sought after eventually - but thats just my opinion.
