Hello all, just bought myself a new 2012 Am Standard Strat, ordered from the web and arrived yesterday. The guitar is beautiful, and I'm really pleased with it. :D Its definitely a good one. However, the tone pot for the neck pickup is not working. I'm sure on last nights quick test play, it was, but today, nothing. I'm not into the business of sending a guitar back just for what is probably a very simple repair. Just looking for suggestions from yourselves, is this relatively common? I'll whip the scratch plate off and inspect the wiring. Where can I order a new genuine Fender pot from (UK).
Thanks
Matt

Pot itself is rarely defective but this apply if it was working before. With the unknow the quality of the part today we never know. ....

Check if capacitor is at one end to the tone pot and other end to ground . One capacitor is use for both tone pots, You can send us a photo of pots wiring.

Look at the diageam there see if you wiring is good;

check for a cold solder connection between tone pot and 5 way switch.

also try flipping 5 way switch back and forth quickly a few times to clean it off.

Ok, bit of an update.....! Been playing all day (man this strat is so sweet, gotta drag myself away) and i've narrowed down the fault, which i think is on the 5 way switch. When you move it direct from the bridge position to the neck position, 90% of the time, it seems to activate the neck tone pot no problems. Only when you move off to like pos 4, then back to the neck does it seem to bypass the tone pot. I've had to order some new strings cos they different gauge to what i got here, so when then arrive, i can get the pick guard off and look at the wiring. Any advice on if this could be slightly loose wiring which is getting pushed by the physical moving of the lever, or if you think the switch unit is knackered. Cheers

Yes could be a bad solder ( on wire on the switch ) or defective switch contact. Look also for a broken switch wafer.

I had the same problem with my 04 Am St Strat, neck pu tone pot cutting out.

I replaced the 5 way switch, that fixed the problem.

Yours is new, store should fix for free or exchange guitar.
