I always knew I would take up an instrument and learn music, and planned to do so after my kids were grown. But since my son is so accomplished in music and now is playing guitar I saw it as an opportunity to learn from him.

I never knew what instrument I would like to play someday, and never really cared for acoustic guitar.

But when I picked up his Stratocaster for the first time and started playing with it I decided that this was my instrument. Two weeks later I bought my own.

I particularly like the ergonimics and the versatility.

I play every day and find it to be an energizing activity after a long day at work. It's a much better use of time that some of the light reading I had been doing all these years.

I'm with you. I bought my daughter a strat and after watching her play, I decided I wanted to learn and play, so I bought my own strat and now I can't put it down. 8)

yeah, it is one magical guitar design. When I started playing, I didn't want one, cause everybody had one. I had to be different. But a few years later, I played one in a shop, and it clicked. I guess I found why everybody was playing one, they are just great instruments.

Agreed I never wanted one because I didn't like the way they looked...always wanted a gibson lp custom. after years of trading up guitars and finally got one and I was a little let down. Then one night at a friends house I picked up one of his strats just to play around and was instantly sold on the playability. then the tone was so clean and pure and fit what I was looking for. I could almost kick myself for over looking this guitar...FOR 15 YEARS. now i'm sold for life and congratulate all people who make that discovery for themselves.

Its the same here for me....never really like the Strats before.I wasnt impressed with the number of knobs it has and the single coils turn me off then....i used to consider myself of more an Ibanez player.
But ever since started to chase for a good tone it lead me to own my very first Fender...the YJM.The first few hours of playing got me thinking that i made a bad choice of buying the guitar but after a day or two, i just cannot put the guitar down. And it gets better everytime....and come this Thursday, my Am Dlx HSS in 3 color sunburst is waiting for me to collect it....woohooo!!

When I bought my new Strat, a kid I know said "I don't like Strats because everyone plays them."

I looked at him and asked "So you play a Les Paul?"

thats funny. cause the first guitar i bought was a les paul. and yeah, they are just as popular as strats. i guess when you are a kid, you kind of overlook simple facts like that.

The strat is the epitome of comfort in an electric guitars. I can't imagine anything easier than the strat!

My earliest electric playing influences were mostly Les Paul players - Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck (at that time) and Ace Frehley to name a few. It wasn't until after I graduated high school in 1980 that I first started looking into single coil pickups on the Yamahas that Santana was playing at the time. The first electric I ended up buying was a Yamaha T-300, which was their SSS pickups and tremolo bridge in pearl white. I did end up owning a LP about 15 years after that as a basket case. The only thing worth savaging was the body and neck but for a genuine LP that was enough. I rebuilt her and played her for 12 years until my divorce which resulted in me being parted with all of my toys and being relegated to a vow of poverty. But I digress.

Before that, in October of 1982 I saw a comic strip of Hendrix playing Voodoo Chile... A slight Return in an adult fantasy magazine called Heavy Metal which was popular at that time. I was intrigued by the lyrics and bought The Essential Jimi Hendrix Vol 1 and when I heard him I was hooked forever on electric blues. During the last ten years that I haven't had a guitar I flipped flopped between the choice of one of many Strats or Gibson ES-335. The Strat won when I saw the American Deluxe.

I too was influenced by my son... he's been playing the cello with his school's orchestra for a few years, and now that he's entering high school he wants something "cooler" so we went shopping for a bass guitar at the local Sam Ash... I picked up a strat for fun, and the rest is history. I HAD to have one. 8)

My son gave me three guitar lessons at our local music store as a Father's Day gift last year...I've been going ever since...he's quite an accomplished drummer and plays in couple of bands...I played 2 songs on stage with them in a local bar with them a couple of months ago..the high lite of my musical career so far! I've bought a few guitars over the past year as well...

I have to agree with all of you...a Strat looks the way an electric guitar should...I think it also plays like an electric guitar should...I have a LP Standard as well and don't enjoy it as much as the Strat...I also bought a Martin electric/ascoustic and love it...
